General Health Measures
In all matters of health, CBE takes direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. Find out how you can reduce the spread and lessen the impact of illness in school communities.
Routine Immunizations
The CBE supports the AHS school-based immunization program.
email | WoodmanAttendance@cbe.ab.ca (type student's first & last name in subject line)
phone | 403-777-7490 ext. 1 (clearly provide student's first & last name, then spell last name)
It is important that you contact the school office if your child is going to be absent or arriving late.
Illness
If your child is ill, please keep them at home until they are well enough to participate in all school activities. If your child becomes ill during the school day, we will contact you and you will be expected to arrange for your child to be picked up as soon as possible.
Accidents
If an accident occurs in class, on the field, or in the gym and first aid is required, students will be accompanied by a classmate to the office, with consent from the teacher. It is important that the teacher is informed of an accident, so that appropriate reporting and follow- up communication with parents can occur. The office staff is also always ready to assist students and make them feel comfortable. In the event of a more serious accident, emergency services and parents will be contacted immediately.
Allergies
All families of students with severe medical profiles are required to complete the Student Health Plan and Student Health Emergency Response Protocol forms, which are emailed to families during the first week of school. Please return them to the office immediately. Information on medical conditions and severe allergies will be kept in the main office and information shared with teachers.
We are a peanut-aware environment. Please refrain from bringing peanut products to school. In the event of a severe allergy and use of epi-pen, students must be able to have access to one (in the binder, backpack, fanny pack, etc.). A second epi-pen must be brought to the main office for safe-keeping. Personalized plans should be arranged between the family, homeroom teacher, and student so that everyone can eat safely within the classroom or common areas. While teachers promote solid education on the matter of anaphylaxis, they cannot control the known or unknown food choices of individual students. Good citizenship on this serious matter is expected by everyone.
Medication
Student Health Emergency Response Protocol Form
This form is to be used when there is a student health issue regarding attention. This includes when there is a request to administer medication.
This form is to be:
- completed if a physical or medical condition may affect the student's attendance at school
- completed if medication is to be taken at school,
- reviewed and updated annually or sooner if there is a change in the student's health concern or school registration.
Lice
There may be times during the school year when we have cases of head lice.
If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. If your child has been exposed to lice at school we will notify you.
As a precaution, we ask all parents to check their child’s head frequently for a few weeks after any exposure. You can find more information on lice from myhealth.alberta.ca.
