C’est l’année où nous célébrons 50 ans de programmation linguistique enrichie en immersion française.
Language learning changes how students engage in the world. Keen perspective taking, deep self-reflection, and more humane, inter-cultural understanding can emerge when students engage with topics and people through other languages. At École Woodman, we seek to offer this opportunity to all students – either through Late French, Continuing French, or French-as-a-Second Language programming. More than 40% of our students also speak other languages than English and French. Our school population reminds us that, truly - The Future is Language.
We are engaging in several initiatives this year, in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of French Immersion programming in the Calgary Board of Education (CBE):
- Participation in six separate French language projects with other CBE schools, through federal OLEP funds (Official Languages in Education Program)
- Piloting a CBE Language Program Review on our campus
- Ensuring strong friendship and transition planning with our feeder schools - with visits to Haysboro, Chinook Park and Janet Johnstone Schools during our upcoming Wellness Day (Dec. 15)
- Planning for an expanded Mois de la francophonie in March
Registration for the 2024-2025 school year commences on Jan. 15. Inquire more with our main office (woodman@cbe.ab.ca or #403-777-7490) about how your child can be part of this bright future. All interested families are also welcome to attend our annual Open House on Thurs. Feb. 22, 6:30-8:00 pm.
Yours in language learning,
Marlene Krickhan, Principal
