Learning Commons and Daily Reading
Woodman School, with the generous support of the School Council, maintains a healthy collection of English and French print and digital resources in the school library. Students are encouraged to use the library regularly during class and lunchtimes. Teachers will also schedule a bi-weekly visit to the library during English or French classes. Students may borrow books for a two-week period and must show their student lanyard / barcode to the library assistant to borrow books. The Learning Commons will be open during the second half of lunch on several days of the school week for the purpose of signing out books. Some books are labelled as more appropriate for older adolescents; however, the school does not restrict selection of print resources for students who demonstrate interest in the subject matter. All book selections are made through following CBE guidelines and are ordered through approved vendors.
Students are not permitted to eat or drink in the Library/ Learning Commons; lunch bags must be placed at the door upon entrance.
Teachers will communicate expectations for daily reading to students at the onset of each school year. Daily reading at home and school is a highly endorsed practice, which parents and teachers are invited to develop mutual expectations for.
