Dear Woodman Families:
We have been impressed with the dedication of our students throughout the intensity of this week. Students are learning important skills of review and applying concepts learned towards successful year-end assessments. They are also showing diligence in continuing to attend school and put forth positive effort in the afternoons following PATs. Thank you for the parental support!
Grade 9 students and staff had a very special evening of celebration at Heritage Park on Tuesday evening. There was just enough sun and rain, speeches and dances, and playing like kids on the Midway to make the evening unforgettable. We are grateful for the generous support of the School Council and other individual families in support costs, in order to allow every student that wanted to participate, access to the event.
Take note of the important messages for the last week of school June 22-26
Happy Retirement – Ms. Ibarra
Woodman students celebrated the career of a much-loved caretaker today. Ms. Ibarra has worked at Woodman for 15 years, keeping classrooms clean, organizing evening rental groups, and caring for plants and other green spaces in and around the school. Today, students lined the hallways before dismissal to thank her and wish her well. The clapping and cheering lasted for several minutes, and reminded us that the spirit of the Wolf Pack is beautiful and strong. We wish Ms. Ibarra a well deserved retirement.
Final Assessment Results and Semester 2 Report Cards
Teachers have worked intensively in completing teaching plans, collaborating in teams to discuss student achievement, and preparing report card comments and grades. Processes for the communication of student learning include:
- Gr. 7-8 exam results will be posted to Power School by Wed. June 24th.
- All CBE students may view their Semester 2 Report Cards in Power School on Thurs. June 25; note that hard copies are not provided by the school
- Families are encouraged to print their report card to retain for future reference; Power School does not maintain historical data on student report cards beyond July 31
- More information about how to view, download or print online report cards may be found here: https://cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Pages/Online-K-12-Report-Cards-Available-June-25-2026.aspx
- Gr. 6/9 initial PAT results will be provided to students in a sealed envelope on Fri. June 26. Note that this initial student result report issued by Alberta Education should be held in confidence, and with the understanding that final results may differ slightly when they are communicated to families in October. PAT results do not comprise part of the CBE report card.
Traffic Lights Coming to Elbow Drive and 86th Ave
The City of Calgary informed Woodman School that traffic lights will be installed at the intersection adjacent to the school. The construction has already begun and traffic lights are expected to be installed in July. The construction may temporarily cause congestion at this intersection. We expect significant safety improvements for students who walk and cycle across the intersection. We also expect more efficient flow of traffic during peak hours.
Cultural Potluck – Wed., June 24
Our 2nd Annual Woodman Cultural Potluck is taking place next Wednesday, June 24. This special event is a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate our incredible diversity by exploring new cultures through food, traditions, and community. Families that are participating and bringing food are reminded to please review the email and communication previously shared by Ms. Reeves and Mr. Homewood for important event details, including food drop-off and labelling instructions. We look forward to celebrating the many cultures that make our Woodman community so special! Email Ms. Reeves at mLreeves@cbe.ab.ca if you have any questions.
Choose Your Own Adventure Wellness Day- Thurs. June 25
Students are in for a jam-packed day full of exciting activities, wellness, and fun, focusing on connecting and celebrating a successful year!
A few important reminders:
- We are still looking for parent volunteers! If you're available to help, please email Ms. Reeves mLreeves@cbe.ab.ca.
- Activity forms and fees are due today. Fees must be paid for students to participate in their selected off-campus activities.
The afternoon will be filled with on-campus fun for everyone! Students can enjoy “Just Dance!” in the main gym, kickball on the lower field, lawn games, and more on the upper field.
Food Trucks – Wednesday Afternoon
As part of the year-end Wellness Day, we are excited to welcome three local YYC food trucks from 1:30–3:30 p.m.:
- Family Squeezed Lemonade
- Canadian Bear Balls
- Golden Cactus
Food truck menu items will range from approximately $10–$20, and students may pay with cash or card. Our Leadership students will also be hosting a Popsicle Stand, with popsicles available for $1, cash only. We expect an amazing day to celebrate another fantastic year at Woodman!
Appeals Day – Mon. June 29, 9:00-12:00
We suggest the value in arranging a designated time between parent and child to read the report card together. This creates an opportunity for intentional recognition of accomplishments made this year; there are also specific recommendations made by teachers for next steps in learning.
If there are any incongruences or if you are unable to access the digital report card, please contact the main office right away. Should families have questions about any aspect of the report card, we request that they email the teacher to book a virtual or in-person appointment. Please email teachers by Fri. June 26, 2:00 pm to request an appointment on Appeals Day. Appeals Day is Mon. June 29, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
Yearbooks Almost Sold!
The $40 yearbook fee is no longer available to parents through their CBE account. There are only 15 yearbooks remaining to purchase through the main office. Students who purchased a yearbook will receive it on the last day of school, Fri. June 26.
Looking for a Summer Home – Woodman Plants
Woodman has a thriving living wall in the Learning Commons with many small plants that need care over the summer. If you have a green thumb and could adopt them for two months, please email woodman@cbe.ab.ca to extend your assistance.
Correction: WMPA Gathering Start Time
The Woodman Music Parents’ Association year-end gathering will commence at 6:00, not 7:00, as was incorrectly mentioned in the last Woodman Weekly.
