Dear Woodman Families:

Thank you to the high participation levels at the Meet Woodman Night on Thursday.  We are a strong, healthy and supportive school community! 

The Scholastic Book Fair was a great success, having sold $2623.76 in books.  This results in $787.13 of Scholastic rewards earned, which will be re-directed into book purchases for the school library. 

Note the important messages for the week ahead, Mon. Sept. 21 - Thurs. Sept. 24. Fri., Sept. 25 is a CBE non-instructional day and there is no school for students. 

Alternate Drop Off – St. Gerard’s Church Mon. Sept. 21

On Monday, Sep 21, ATCO gas may be blocking access to the church parking lot off Elbow Drive as early as 8:00 AM. We thank St. Gerard Church staff for advising parents who regularly drop off their children in this location, to find an alternate drop-off location. 

Wellness Days At Woodman 

In alignment with the CBE Student Well-Being Framework and the Woodman School Development Plan, four days are planned during the school year to focus on well-being, belonging, and building a sense of community.  On these days, there are no regularly scheduled classes.  Rather, teams of teachers plan engaging presentations, outings, and guest speakers that respond to the developmental needs of our students.  Keep posted on the first Wellness Day, through the Important Dates section, below.  Letters and consent forms will be circulated to students within the next week.  

  • Wellness Day #1         Grade Level Wellness Day / Retreat (September-early October) 
    • Purpose: Make new friends and get to know teachers 
  • Wellness Day #2         Community and Citizenship (December 11) 
    • Give meaningfully to feeder schools and charitable organizations 
  • Wellness Day #3         Relationships (April 9) 
    • Navigate social media, conflict resolution, and healthy boundaries 
  • Wellness Day #4         Activity and Celebration (Last week of June) 
    • End the school strongly and positively  

Athletic and Field Trip Fees in MyCBE

Over the next week, all participants of Cross Country, Soccer and Basketball teams will receive their consent forms, and have their fees posted to the parent portal of Power School.  To participate in any CBE athletic team, the following forms are required:

  • CBE Athletic Authorization (shared in Woodman Opening Package)
  • CBE Fairness and Safety in Sport (shared in Woodman Opening Package)
  • CBE specific team consent form (shared by each specific teacher-coach) 

There are also fees posted for various upcoming field trips, events, and grade level retreats being hosted in October. Punctual payment of fees allows the school to pay referees, transportation service providers, and vendors. Thank you for your attention in this regard.  

Note that central fees - such as Noon Supervision (Gr. 5-6), CBE Transportation and Music Instrument Rental Fee – will be posted in mid-October.  School-based fees - such as Complementary Courses and Incidental Lunch Activities - will also be posted at a similar time.

CBE Required Online Forms 

Currently, approximately 54% of students do not have a completed Demographic Verification Form for the 2026-27 school year. These forms are a legal requirement from Alberta Education. Forms may be found on SchoolEngage, which is one of the applications found in the MyCBE account. Assistance and tutorials may be found here: https://support.cbe.ab.ca/schoolengage-complete-form

To complete all required forms: 

1 | sign in to the MyCBE account 

2 | click on the SchoolEngage icon 

3 | select the form (see types of forms, below) 

4 | complete or review and update the form 

5 | click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school 

6 | repeat steps 3-5 for each form  

IPP Parent/Student Input Meetings: Fri. Sept. 25

Every family of a child on an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) will have received an introductory email from their key IPP teacher.  Meeting times will be arranged and set up by the key teacher and may occur on or around Fri. Sept. 25 (CBE non-instructional day), either in person or through Microsoft Teams. Students should participate in these meetingsto foster ownership and voice in the learning process. The next Learning Conferences for all students are on Nov. 26-27.

Terry Fox Donations Continue

Healthy Hunger Lunch Deliveries Commence Sept. 22

Participate in this convenient student-run lunch delivery program, proceeds of which are re-directed back into school enhancements.  Log on and create a parent account: https://healthyhunger.ca/. Leadership students and staff are ready to commence this upcoming week! 

Gr. 9 ENVOE Overnight Camp Confirmed

Thank you to the families of Gr. 9 students in Environmental and Outdoor Education class, who completed the expression of interest form to participate in an overnight experience at Kamp Kiwanis.  We have reached a sufficient threshold of interested families, and therefore the trip has been confirmed for Oct. 14-15.  Forms, fee information, and behavioural expectations will be shared with families soon. Once completed and paid, students will be approved for participation. 

School Council Meeting – Tues. Sept. 22, 7:00 pm 

Together the Woodman School Council and the Woodman School Parent Society are a group of Woodman families and Woodman staff that work collaboratively to have a positive impact on student success.  We encourage all Woodman families to become actively involved by attending our meetings, by reading our minutes shared in the Woodman Weekly, or by volunteering your time as an executive member.   

Our first set of meetings will be held virtually on September 22 beginning at 7:00 pm. 

We are looking for parents to help with several important roles, including:

  • A Secretary 
  • A Vice Chair 
  • A Key Communicator / Council of School Councils Representative 
  • Fundraising Coordinators
  • Staff Appreciation Coordinators
  • Members at Large

Parent French Conversation Class!

Just us for French Conversation Practice at the Calgary Central Library.  This is a welcoming opportunity to practice speaking French, meet new people, and build confidence in a friendly and supportive environment. Sessions run on Saturdays, from Sept. 26-Oct. 31, from 1:00-2:30 pm at the Calgary Central Library (Level 3, Room 3-16B).
