Dear Woodman Families:

It is cold outside, but the heart of the Wolf Pack beats warmly.  The Wellness Day on Friday was a perfect blend of re-visiting former elementary schools, engaging with community partners (Mustard Seed, Drop-In Centre, The Dream Centre) and having some fun - like the first-ever Grade 7 dance.  Thank you to the many families who donated to the Fill-a-Sock campaign!

We wish those families who commemorate Hanukkah a very special time of celebration, commencing on Dec. 14.

  • Note the important messages for the last week before the winter break, Dec. 15-19:

Merci, M. Marquis

Woodman has been wonderfully supported by retired administrator, M. Marquis, over the last month. The last day of M. Marquis’ interim assignment to Woodman is Fri. Dec. 19.  He will participate in necessary transitional processes with the newly appointed assistant principal, Mr. Willoughby, whose first day is Mon. Jan. 5. We sincerely thank M. Marquis for his continued leadership contributions to our school, and to the Calgary Board of Education.

Purdy’s Chocolate Pick-Up – Monday, 3:45-5:00 pm

Many thanks to Woodman families for supporting our Purdy's Fundraiser.

A reminder to pick up your chocolates on Monday December 15 between 3:45-5:00 pm.

Please email the Woodman School Council parentcouncilwoodman@gmail.com for any related questions.

Spirit Week Plans

During the upcoming week, the Leadership 9 class invites students to have some fun together by dressing up in a variety of ways:

  • Dec 15 – Jersey Day
  • Dec 16 – Anything but a Backpack Day
  • Dec 17 – Twin Day
  • Dec 18 – Beach Day
  • Dec 19 – Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

The last day of school will be a day of homeroom celebrations, board games, a school-wide pep rally and a Grade 8/9 school dance.

Student Holiday Market – Dec. 15-19

As was previously mentioned, we encourage students to come to school with cash to purchase some gifts and snacks for themselves, their friends, or their family members during the upcoming Student Holiday Market. Students with allergies may wish to select non-food purchases, given that the goods are homemade, and ingredients labels may not be available. The market will run over the entire lunch hour each day next week.  Student vendors will be provided with time to eat their lunch in advance of the market opening each day.  The market clean-up will occur on Thursday between 3:45-4:30 pm. Parental assistance at this time is much appreciated.

Artist-in-Residence Update: Mural of Memory and Meaning

Art classes have been busy learning about mosaics, making their own individual mini mosaics, and creating glazed and kiln-fired tesserae. Every step has involved students from all grades working together through the process, utilizing personally significant objects representing the cultural and linguistic diversity at Woodman.  Grade 9 art students are in the final stages of working on imagery for the mural and an initial mock-up of the full-scale mural will be shared on the school Instagram account in advance of the winter break.  The residency with Michelena Bamford, which has been generously funded by the Woodman School Council, will be completed in January. Keep posted for more information on viewing and the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Lost and Found Items

Student lost and found items are on display in the hallway by the office. Ask your student to look carefully for their items. Anything remaining before the winter break will be donated.

Volleyball Try-Out Schedule

Final details of the upcoming volleyball season are being finalized and will be communicated in the Dec. 19 Woodman Weekly. Try-out times will commence during the first week of January and will be open to Grades 7-9 students.  Regular Physical Education classes have been focussed on developing skill and confidence with volleyball in advance of the season start.
