The Parents Educational Society for Woodman School has received our next casino dates.  We will be at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino on Saturday, November 1 and Sunday November 2.

Volunteering at the casino brings in approximately $75,000 to the society.  These funds are used to update school spaces, provide equipment for option classes, provide computers, and so much more. To host the casino we need 40 volunteers over the course of the two days.

How does this benefit my child at Woodman?

On average, Casino funding contributes $75,000 every two years. This is the most important fundraising activity we do as a school. It pays for:

Chrome Books

Playground

Library Books

Artist in Residence programs

3D Printers

Djembe Drums

Wellness Days

Wrestling Mats

Fitness Room

Photography Equipment  Science Lab Furniture & Equipment and more!

It may seem like a chore, but it’s actually a lot of fun and you get to meet others in your school community and make new connections. Each volunteer shift brings in approximately $2,000 for our school.

Don’t worry if you’ve never done it before, you’ll get all the training you need. You also get a free meal during your shift.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does “working a casino” mean?

All casinos in Alberta require volunteers for them to run. Volunteers are responsible for the count room. Some of the roles to fill are:

  • Take chips to game tables when they need to be re-filled.
  • Pay out customers who want to cash in the chips they have been using.
  • Count the money the game tables have brought in during the day.

All jobs are computerized and there is a paid supervisor to walk everyone through the process.

Who can work in the casino count room?

Anyone who is 18 years of age and over, who does not have a criminal conviction and has not excluded themselves from entering a casino. You do not need a police clearance.

Volunteers can be grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends and adult siblings. No experience necessary.

How do we get there?

There is free parking on site. If you don’t drive but would like to volunteer, we can set up carpooling for you. We will be at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino at 11500 35 St SE.
