It was a bustling week that included lots of good learning, active fun, and celebration.

Woodman received a strong commendation from the Calgary Police Service during the first lock down practice of the school year.  Staff members were swift and responsive, and students demonstrated respect and the needed level of seriousness.

Note the important messages for the upcoming week of Jan. 26-Jan. 30. Friday is a CBE professional learning day, and there is no school for students.

Senior Band Clinics – Tuesday, 3:45-5:45

Senior band students will benefit from learning with expert musicians after school on Tuesday.  As it will be a long day, please provide your child with a hearty lunch and solid snack.  There is no time to leave campus between the end of class and the start of the clinics. Thank you for punctual payment of the $31 fee in My CBE, which will allow the school to pay the clinicians in a timely way.

Semester 2 Option Classes – Wednesday

Grade 7-9 students will receive their timetable with semester 2 options early next week.  The first day of new option classes, and the new semester, is Wed. Jan. 28. Students selected their preferred option classes in May-June, and changes are not being considered to their selections. This ensures class size stability and program integrity.

Student Leaders for Open House, Thurs. Feb. 5, 6:30-8:00

We have begun intensive Late French recruitment efforts this week in south-west elementary schools.  Advertising signs have been placed in key neighbourhoods.  Get the word out to neighbours, friends and family: the annual Open House will be a fun-filled evening in our school!  Student leaders contribute greatly to the energy and pride of the event. This upcoming week your child may be invited by their teacher to assist as a volunteer, from 6:15-8:00 pm.  Thank you for supporting their involvement.

Lake Louise and Lost Equipment

Thanks to the efforts of teachers and financial commitment of parents, Woodman successfully led one of the largest school ski trips to Lake Louise.  Our students are fortunate to receive such high calibre outdoor learning opportunities. Special thanks is extended to the parent volunteers whose presence made the trip possible.

There was a pair of ski blue and silver Rossignol poles that were misplaced during the trip.  If any parents ended up with an extra pair, or the wrong pair, please email Mme. Reeves at mlkreeves@cbe.ab.ca or bring them to the office.

Invitation: Junior Police Academy

Calgary Police Services invites Calgary students ages 12-16 to Junior Police Academy. This free experience immerses youth into the world of a Calgary police officer and any other aspects of law enforcement. Healthy Hunger – Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays

The lunch hour at Woodman is 40 minutes and allows only minimal time to walk to local restaurants to purchase food.  For this reason, and particularly in winter, we encourage students to bring their own packed lunch or participate in the Healthy Hunger program.  Healthy Hunger is a convenient way to provide choice to students, and may alleviate lunch preparations at home.  Log on to www.healthyhunger.ca to register and order for February.
