Dear Woodman Families

It has been an intensive week, culminating in the completion of final exams and PATs.  Our students have demonstrated their stamina, and we commend them for it. Final exam results will be posted to Power School early next week.  We await government direction on the communication of initial PAT results.

Take note of the important messages for the week of June 24-27.  The final day of school, Thurs. June 27, is a partial day with a 1:14 dismissal time.  There will be no regular lunch hour and CBE transportation will pick up students as per a Friday timetable

Our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

Today was a special day of celebration of Summer Solstice and of Indigenous knowledge, culture and music in Canada. We renew our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, in continuing to deepen the commitments we had previously made:

"Each student will learn on the land at a site which holds significance for Indigenous peoples. Each student will strengthen literacies that enliven Indigenous voices and perspectives (novels, slam poetry, music, story telling)."

Our website, and each classroom, has showcased the following 2024-2025 commitment. This is also on Our School.

Final Week: A Time for Closure and Celebration

The ritual of school closing is powerful in strengthening relationships.  We look forward to the last four days of school, which will include several important activities:

  • Completing PATs for students who were absent during regularly scheduled dates
  • Grade 9 Professional Portraits – Band (Monday, 11:45-12:45)
  • Final opportunity for option class selection, for students who were absent during sign up time last week; changes following this date will not be made possible (Tuesday)
  • Grade 7/8 ENVOE Field Trip (Wednesday, all day – forms due on Monday!)
  • Year-end assembly and yearbook distribution (Thursday)
  • Classroom celebrations and farewells

Calgary Pride Guest Speaker – Monday Lunch, Room 5

June is the month to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. On Monday a committee member of the Calgary Pride committee will join us in Room 5, over the lunch hour. Calgary Pride heralds diversity, equity and honouring human rights. Students will learn more about Calgary Pride’s work in the community. All interested students are welcome to participate.

Semester 2 Report Cards and Appeals Day

Teachers have worked intensively over the last month to capture student assessment of learning and communicate that in personalized ways through the semester 2 report card.  Digital report cards for all CBE schools will be viewable in MyCBE School beginning on Tues. June 26. Note that hard copies of the report card are made by special request only, by emailing woodman@cbe.ab.ca

We suggest the value in arranging a sit-down meeting between parent and child to read the report card together. This creates an opportunity for intentional recognition of accomplishments made this year; there are also specific recommendations made by teachers for next steps in learning.

If there are any incongruencies or if you are unable to access the digital report card, please contact the main office right away.  Additionally, should families have questions or wish to contest any aspect of the report card, we request that they email the teacher to book a virtual or in-person appointment.  Please email teachers by Wed. June 26, 3:30 pm to request an appointment on Appeals Day.  Appeals Day is Thurs. June 27, 9:00-12:00 pm.

Fees – Thank You!

Several weeks ago, we communicated a very high number of outstanding fees for activities, field trips, and option classes.  Since then, families have diligently begun to paid their fees, allowing us to pay service providers before the summer break.  Ending the school year in good financial health is a priority for us.  Thank you for your support.

Unreturned Library Books

On Monday, June 24 all unreturned library books will be considered lost. A $15 charge per lost book will be added to the MyCBE fees account.

Overdue: IPP Parent Signature Sheets

We still have a few outstanding IPP parent signature sheets that must be submitted to homeroom teachers as soon as possible.  Thank you for your assistance.
