Dear Woodman Families
There was joy and good learning for Woodman students in many ways this week. From a stellar band performance at Jack Singer Concert Hall, to hard-fought volleyball games, to a courageous French language speech contest – our students show us everyday how much worth they bring to school life.
Take note of the following messages regarding the week ahead, March 11-15:
March Francophone Fun Continues
We thank the Woodman School Council for their generous support of Francophone cultural activities, and in providing a complementary maple taffy stick to each student. Students enjoyed being outdoors today, and learning authentic practices from the experts around how taffy-on-snow is made.
For this upcoming week, students will engage in a variety of homeroom challenges that teach them more about Franco-Canadian Carnaval celebrations, including the playful Bonhomme and traditional ice castle building. On Friday, students are encouraged to continue the fun by coming dressed up in French-style.
New Conversation Club Starting on Monday
Mme. Maxx is inviting any students that wish to improve their conversation skills in English or French, or who wish to make new friends, to join the Monday Conversation Club. The Club will be hosted in Room 5 and all are welcome.
School Handbook Reminders - Student Supervision Before and After School
Students should arrive at school after 8:45am. The main doors into the school will open at 8:55, allowing students 10 minutes to go to the locker and prepare for the entry of classes at 9:05. As per CBE guidelines, exceptions will be made when temperatures are -20 degrees or colder, in which case the doors will be opened early. The main office closes at 4:00 pm (M-Th) and 2:30 (Friday). Parents are requested to ensure that drop-off and pick-up of students does not extend beyond these times, in order to ensure safety in the building, and adequate levels of supervision during non-instructional times.
Friday School Attendance
The school observes a notable trend of student absences from school on Fridays. We request that families make every effort to send students to school, and to plan appointments, trips, and extra-curricular commitments outside of instructional hours. As we prepare students for Provincial Achievement Tests and transitions to high school, Friday instruction is vital to consolidate understanding.
