Woodman Weekly March 16-20
We greet you at the end of a week full of learning adventures. The school celebrated Francophone Week with daily cultural activities - including free maple taffy for all, thanks to the generous funding of the School Council. We participated in three field trips of epic proportions, which was made possible by the large number of parent volunteers who accompanied us. We fought hard in volleyball playoffs. The jazz band performed impressively at the Henry Wise Wood Mix and Mingle. And we ended the week with a lively Pi Day assembly.
No School Upcoming
Note the important messages for the upcoming week of March 16-19. There is no school on Fri. March 20 because of Learning Conferences. Spring Break is from March 23-27. Regular classes resume on Mon. March 30.
Virtual Learning Conferences
Thurs. March 19 and Fri. March 20
Learning Conferences are essential for parents and teachers to set goals for strong learning outcomes in advance of the last three months of the school year. Learning Conferences on Thurs. March 19 (evening) are held in the school – either in the Lunchroom or the Learning Commons. Learning Conferences on Fri. March 20 are virtual, through Microsoft Teams.
Virtual Conferences Tips:
- Log in 1-2 minutes before the start of your conference time
- Wait in the virtual lobby and teachers will admit you at the designated time
- Cameras and microphones should be on for all participants to enhance good communication.
- If you are a CBE employee, ensure that you are accessing the Microsoft Teams link through your personal, not CBE email address. This ensures parent access, not meeting organizer access
General suggestions for a successful 10-minute conference:
- Ensure that your child is present and participates in the meeting
- Verify posted grades on Power School leading up to the conference
- Frame your conversation around: “What has my child excelled in since the report card?” and “What are the action steps (2-3) that we can focus on for the remainder of the school year?”
- Be sensitive to start and end times, to allow teachers to progress through their conferences in a timely fashion
Main Office Closed for Spring Break
Fri. March 20, 2:00 PM – Mon. March 30, 8:00 AM
The main office telephone lines and staff email addresses will not be monitored over the period of Spring Break. We wish our students and staff a well-deserved break from work during this time.
Lost and Found
Students have been provided with daily reminders to visit the display of lost and found items. Parents are also welcome to stop by the school during regular office hours (8:00-4:00 PM, Monday-Thursday) or on the evening of Learning Conferences (March 19) to search for misplaced items. All unclaimed items will be donated to Women in Need Society by the end of the month.
Locker Clean-Out
This week teachers will be providing students with time to tidy their lockers, discard food and beverage containers, and ensure they are bringing their gym strips home for laundering. Keeping the school tidy and clean over the holiday period is our priority.

Woodman Music Parents’ Association Updates
We are proud of the presence that our music students have had in the community over the last month – band festivals, Winds from the South, junior winter band concert, and feeder high school participation. More than $1200.00 was raised in donations at the winter concert on Feb. 26! The WMPA meets monthly to provide ongoing support and oversight to music programming.
