Dear Woodman Families:
We had a successful first week of school. It is common for students to feel nervous about class placements and meeting new teachers and we sensed that students were beginning to feel more settled by Friday. In our opening assembly, we communicated our vision for making Woodman a great place to learn for each student and how “It Takes a Pack” to feel accepted and to learn well together. We shared expectations for kind treatment of others, excellence in learning, and fully embracing the new challenges that await.
Note the important messages for the week ahead, Tues. Sept. 8 - Fri. Sept. 11. Monday is a statutory holiday and there is no school.

Phys Ed Clothing
Due: Sept.14th, Order Woodman Physical Education (PE) Clothing
Now is the time to show school pride by purchasing customized PE clothing for class. Woodman strongly encourages students to wear a Woodman shirt and shorts/sweats. Families may also recycle Woodman clothing from past years or opt for a red shirt and black bottoms. Please email Athletics/PE Learning Leader, Mr. Heron, with any questions (caheron@cbe.ab.ca). Order here: Woodman School Spirit Wear
Digital Citizenship Contract
The ethical use of technology is a foundational aspect of education at the middle school level. We anticipate reduced peer conflict, social anxiety, and distraction with the legislated changes related to Personal Mobile Devices in schools. The Woodman Digital Citizenship Contract 2026-2027 was included in the opening package that families received this week. Please review the following contract with your child over the next week and return a signed copy (parent and student) to homeroom teachers by Fri. Sept. 11. This contract is retained in the main office to reference with students should reminders of our expectations be needed.
CBE Online Verifications/Consent
Earlier this week, families received a central email requesting completion of the following in the My CBE account:
- Demographic Verification
- Citizenship Information Update
- Annual Authorization
Having updated demographic information on file is vital to ensure that the school is able to contact families. Learn more about how to set up a My CBE account, and to complete necessary forms, through the following link: https://support.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe-creating-account
Suggested Student Supplies Information
If you have not already done so, please visit the Back-to-School link on the Woodman website, which has all the details about suggested student supplies. Each student is requested to have a personal agenda for documenting learning expectations and due dates. https://woodman.cbe.ab.ca/back-to-school
Terry Fox Run – Fri. Sept. 11
Families are welcome to meet up on the field to cheer on our Wolves as they run for a good cause, the Terry Fox Cancer Foundation. Donations will be collected by bringing a “Toonie for Terry”, provided to PE teachers. Online donations may be made through the following link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/136473.
Students will run in homeroom Packs, dressed in a creative theme that identifies their Pack. Photos will be taken, that will be included in the 2026-2027 school yearbook. All student-runners will be provided with chocolate milk upon concluding the event. Alternatives will be provided to students who are lactose intolerant. Students should ensure they eat a healthy breakfast and bring their own hearty snack to school on Friday.
Volunteers Needed
Parent Volunteers Needed: Woodman Scholastic Book Fair Sept. 16-18
To encourage daily reading, Woodman is planning a book fair in the Learning Commons from Sept. 16-18. Students will view the selection of books for purchase during the school days. Purchases made be made with cash or debit card. Parents are encouraged to visit the book fair with their child during the “Meet Woodman Night” on Thurs. Sept. 17th. Parent volunteers with a valid police security clearance, and who are available to assist with set up and sales on Sept. 16-17 in the afternoons (12:50-3:45) are requested to contact library assistant, Mme. Heron-Mykyte (heheronmykyte@cbe.ab.ca).

Students on Individualized Program Plans (IPPs)

Key teachers are assigned to students on IPPs during the month of September. Expect to receive contact from your child’s IPP key teacher during the third week of September, inviting parents and students to set goals together. These meetings will be held on or before Fri. Sept. 25.
