Dear Woodman Families
Students experienced powerful learning during their Wellness Day today. The Calgary Police Service presentation on cyber-safety and ethical online conduct provoked reflection in our students. We hope that families take an opportunity to ask their children what their personal take aways were. This session is a follow up to the parent presentation at the school council meeting on March 4. We thank the Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth and the Canadian Mental Health Association for sharing their expertise with us. And the day was perfect for the outdoor active stations that Physical Education teachers had planned for students. In all, we hope that our students found benefit and enjoyment in the activities.
Later this evening, we welcome back the Grade 8-9 students and their teachers who sailed the west coast seas of British Columbia this week. They will surely return with many stories and memories.
Note a few important messages for the week of April 14-18. Note that Fri. April 18 is a statutory holiday (Good Friday) and there is no school in the CBE:
Bus Evacuation Practice, Tues. April 15, 8:55-9:05
Please avoid student drop off and pick up on 86th Ave SW during this time. Southland Transportation, together with school staff, are conducting a routine school bus evacuation practice.
Reinforcing Punctuality
The main office is experiencing a high volume of late student arrivals to school. This impacts office operations, classroom flow, and individual student learning. We request parental support and reinforcement to ensure that all students adhere to these entry times:
8:55 Doors open and students move to lockers to get organized for class
9:05 Students should be inside the school and proceeding to class
9:08 Instruction begins, and teachers take attendance
2024-2025 Yearbook
Momentum is building for the release of the 2024-2025 school year book, which will be ready for circulation to those students who purchased one in advance, by June 26. The development of the yearbook is led by a teachers and a Grade 9 student club. The yearbook is comprised of 45 plus pages of high quality photos of school life, class composite photos, and individual student photos. With a solid hard cover, this purchase will preserve memories for decades to come. Payment of $40 is made in MyCBE.

Before High School graduation, one-third of adolescent girls will experience depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm or an eating disorder. However, there is an incredible power in caregivers who can support our youth, both young women and men, before they seek therapy. At Juno House®, we believe in the extraordinary healing power of parents, caregivers, coaches, and teachers. In our 1.5 hour workshop presentation, we will share steps and strategies from the Juno House Therapeutic Model® that will provide effective emotional coaching tools for today’s youth as they develop through adolescence and into young adulthood.
