Dear Woodman Families,
It has been an active four-day week, with the highlight including the spectacular performance of the Jazz Band at the Henry Wise Wood High School Arts Night.
We remind families that Fri. April 18 is a statutory holiday (Good Friday) and there is no school in the CBE. Mon. April 21 is a non-instructional day in the CBE, allowing staff to engage in a wide variety of professional learning activities.
Note a few important messages for the week of April 21-25:
Main Office Closed – Re-Opening Tues. April 22
Given that many professional offerings will be held in alternate CBE sites, the main office will be closed on Mon. April 21. Telephone messages and emails will be responded to on Tues. April 22.
Quebec Trip – April 19-24
Grade 9 students and their teacher supervisors are excited to commence their long-awaited trip to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. Families are reminded to report to the domestic departures gate at the Calgary International Airport on Sat. April 22, 5:45 am. Travellers expect to return on Thurs. April 24, 11:00 pm. For the duration of the trip, there will be a higher number of substitute teachers in the building, with reduced office support available to families. Thank you for your understanding of, and support in offering our students unforgettable learning and language opportunities.
Virtual School Council – Tues. April 22, 7:00 PM
Join us online for the April school council meeting. The Principal Report will include important updates on the budget and staffing for 2025-2026, as well as a discussion on the role and purpose of Provincial Achievement Tests for Gr. 6/9 students. Fundraising timelines and proposals for spending remaining casino funds will be discussed. The final agenda will be circulated following the long weekend.
Climbing Field Trips – Environmental and Outdoor Education (ENVOE)
Students participating in Grade 7/8 ENVOE classes look forward to their upcoming climbing field trips. Forms and information related to payment were distributed to students today. Parents are requested to complete the needed consent forms and make corresponding payments in the My CBE portal well in advance of the trip date. This ensures that the school remains financially responsible in paying service providers in a timely way.
- Grade 7 April 28/29 (AM)
- Grade 8 April 30/May 1 (AM)
Mme. Reeves and Mr. Heron are actively looking for parent volunteers with a valid police security clearance to participate in the trips. Please email them directly to express interest and availability.
Good Citizenship in Haysboro Community
As the spring weather improves, more students are active in the neighbourhood over the lunch hour. We regularly instruct students about their responsibilities for making positive choices and for representing the school in a favourable way. Families are requested to reinforce similar messages at home, specifically with respect to:
- Placing waste in the correct receptacles
- Respecting neighbour private property
- Behaving in an orderly way in the shops and restaurants surrounding the school
- Exercising safety and respect when accessing Calgary Transit
Students should be aware that the CBE Student Code of Conduct applies to all any activities that takes place within the school day, including on commutes to and from school, and over the lunch hour.
Student Vote – Mon. April 28
On Mon. April 28, Woodman students will have an opportunity to cast their vote in the federal election. The Student Vote program is dedicated to enhancing civic education for school-aged youth. As part of the Social Studies program of studies, students will be learning about the federal political system and the platform of each of the federal party leaders. Families can support this learning through informed conversations leading up to the Canadian federal election. Learn more!
