Dear Woodman Families

It was a momentous week for the Grade 8-9 students who were sailing on the western coasts of BC.  Students and staff return late this evening.  Thank you to Mme. Bailer, Mme. Walker, and Mr. Johnstone for their time and commitment to offering students this life changing experience.

Take note of the following messages regarding the week ahead, April 15-19. Friday, April 19 is a system-wide professional learning day, and there is no school for students. The focus of our work includes a cross-school district “Languages is a Journey” symposium, student health and well-being, band/music development, and land based learning.

School Plans for 2024-2025

The school administrative team is actively planning for staffing and instructional needs for the upcoming school year.  If your family is planning on moving, or if you know your child will not attend school at Woodman next year for any reason, please email woodman@cbe.ab.ca as soon as possible.

May 3 “Pick Your Own Adventure” Forms

This week, students were presented with a wide range of options to
participate from, during the last Wellness Day on Fri. May 3.
Activities, which range in cost, include: Green Fools Circus, Climbing,

To best prepare to understand how many attendees we can expect please confirm your attendance by emailing  parentcouncilwoodman@gmail.com by May 8.

This presentation will delve into the broad ethical and practical implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for education.  Teaching, learning, and assessing have become increasingly complex with the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) apps and tools that students can access freely or at a low cost.  In this talk, Dr. Eaton provides insights into how Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and similar apps are impacting education.  Dr. Eaton will share insights from a recent research project she is leading at the Werklund School of Education (University of Calgary).
