Dear Woodman Families
The season of giving is upon us. Evidence of giving to the community was everywhere this week. It included Leadership students serving at the seniors’ luncheon (Haysboro Community Centre), and the Jazz/Senior Band students sharing a lovely evening of music for family and friends. The staff is especially thankful for the generous dessert bar that was prepared for us this afternoon. Merci, to all!
Take note of upcoming events and announcements for the week of Dec. 9-13.
Woodman Staffing Updates
We welcome Ms. MacPhee, Behaviour Support Worker, to Woodman School. Ms. MacPhee’s experience with taking care of vulnerable youth will bring valuable support to the school community.
Refundables Drop-Off – Last Chance!
Thank you to the families who have already demonstrated support for music programming efforts at Woodman, by donating a bag of refundables. The bottle recycling trailer will remain in the school parking lot (east end) until noon on Sat. Dec. 7. Families living in the neighbourhood, or driving by the school, are invited to stop and drop off a bag. All proceeds are re-directed back to off-setting costs related to clinicians, festivals and band camp.

Woodman Wifi Update – Fri. Dec. 13
The CBE technology team will be busy replacing and upgrading more than 50 WIFI hardware units throughout the school day on Dec. 13. Students will not have access to Chromebooks, however most students will be out in the community, participating in various Wellness Day initiatives. Staff will have reduced access to their CBE email, however operations in the main office (including telephone service) are not expected to be impacted. Note that the main office will be closing early, at 2:00 pm, on Dec. 13.
Eco Cooks at Woodman
Woodman is proud to offer a wide range of innovative and life skills programming for students to set them up for current and future success. The Foods option class is a popular one - in which students learn to work as a team in a kitchen, plan recipes, distribute food preparation tasks, and then enjoy their final food product. Beginning this week, students in Foods classes will benefit from participation in classroom presentations from EcoCooks. This is a charitable organization that offers a series of environmental cooking programs that address how food choices impact our planet. Ask your child about the experience, and learn more through the following website: https://www.ecocooks.org/about-us
Coffee With the Principal – Wed. Dec. 18, 2:15-3:30 pm
Several times throughout the year, we invite families to attend an informal visit with school administration. There are no set agenda items. Rather, this is a time to get to know one another and for the school to hear about your experiences and ideas to keep our school a great place to learn. Please confirm your attendance by emailing woodman@cbe.ab.ca.
Student Holiday Market - Dec. 16-19
This year’s 4th annual Student Holiday Market has resulted in the highest student participation levels yet. The market, led by Grade 9 student leaders, seeks to promote creativity, entrepreneurialism, and awareness around the value of supporting local and small businesses.
The market will run every lunch hour from Dec. 16-19 and all Woodman students will be welcomed into the Learning Commons to consider purchasing small items for themselves, or gifts for others. Many food and snack products will be available for purchase. Students will need to pay for items with cash. A portion of student proceeds will be donated to a charitable organization which students are in the process of selecting.
Parents of students who are participating in the Market will be invited to bring in their wares and assist with set up on Thurs. Dec. 12, from 2:00-3:30 pm.
Are You Receiving Woodman School Messages?
Communicating with families through School Messenger is a key tool to ensuring that important information is shared between home and school. Weekly messages are also posted to the school website. Resolving issues related to not receiving School Messenger broadcasts could include:
- Contacting the main office (woodman@cbe.ab.ca) to update your primary email address
- Some email providers may filter CBE messages and prevent them from being delivered to the recipient's inbox.
- Some email providers may have a significant delay (up to a day) before delivering messages.
