Dear Woodman Families,
We trust that our Wolves have been enjoying a restful few days away from school.  CBE staff have been learners yesterday and today - at the annual Calgary City Teachers’ Convention.  Big and small ideas were all explored in hundreds of different sessions. Powerful insights were shared by Secretary General of Education International, Dr. David Edwards.  He named teachers as “wisdom workers”, in which we foster critical thinking, ethical considerations, and emotional intelligence to apply knowledge wisely. We look forward to bringing this guidance back to benefit our students next week.

Please take note of the important messages for the week of Feb. 18-21.  Note that Mon. Feb. 17 is Family Day, and there is no school.  Regular classes will resume on Tues. Feb. 18. We wish our families much love, friendship, and good times on Valentines Day today, and over the Family Day long weekend.

Winter Concert Donations – Merci!

The gymnasium was alive with joyful music on Wednesday evening.  Between glockenspiels, recorders, Djembe drums, and the junior/jazz bands – the display of musical learning was exceptional.  Thank you to the strong show of support from spectators, who lined up all the way down the hallway to await entry in the gymnasium.  The Woodman Music Parents’ Association gratefully acknowledges a grand total of $858.2, that was donated at the concert. Thank you for the generosity!

Special Presentation - CPS Cyber-Safety for Youth, Tues. March 4

Through a grant by Alberta Education, the School Council has secured the expertise of Calgary Police Service Youth Link to present to parents on a topic of key importance – how to protect our youth in an increasingly digital social world. Students and their social media activity often becomes one of the most common causes for conflict and risk – which school administration and parents then need to work together to resolve.  What keeps teens busy on their cell phones in their bedrooms? How do we help them when they have made mistakes on social media? What are some preventative practices we can all employ? These and many other similar questions will be answered through the presentation.  Share this poster widely with friends and family – all are welcome:

Parent Survey – School Development Plan, Budget and Fees

Last week, an important survey was shared with families to provide input on planning for next year.  Your input is vital, and your time is appreciated. The survey is open until Sun. March 3, 2025.

Semester 2 Option Class Fees

Students in Grades 7-9 are registered into two option classes for Semester 2.  Some option classes have a nominal fee, which is used to purchase consumable items for the program. Fees are now uploaded on parent accounts; we request your timely payment.

Parent Volunteers Needed!

There is a need for parent volunteers for numerous upcoming school events!  We encourage parents/guardians to register (either online or in person) and start the CBE volunteer security clearance process as soon as possible, given that it can take several weeks to complete the process. If parents have a valid ePIC in place from another CBE school, they simply need to register and then we can transfer it over. To avoid confusion, parents/guardians should use their own personal MyCBE Parent Account and email address, as opposed to sharing the other partner's account. If volunteers have received their PIC document within the last few months, but have not shared it with the school yet, please provide it quickly in order to clear them to our approved database before it is past the acceptance date.  Apply for police security clearance.
