We hope your child has enjoyed a relaxing Friday. Teachers were learning in many locations of the city today – with the annual CBE Languages Symposium, Well-Being Series and English Language Learning Support being highlights of the day.
Note the important messages for the upcoming week of Feb.2-6:
Staffing Changes
As a result of increased student enrollment, we look forward to adding more teaching support to the Grade 6 cohort. Mme. Welton will be changing positions and joining Mme. McCurdy and M. Mouhmoud in Grade 6. We welcome Mme. Massey back to Woodman, who will be teaching in the Late French 7 cohorts. Teachers have been actively planning for a smooth transition next week.
February Dates of Significance
As we prepare the walls and learning spaces of the school for the upcoming Open House on Feb. 5, we are reminded of the celebration and pride we hold for the diversity represented in our school. When students welcome visitors into the building, they often speak of this theme. We wish to highlight important commemorations and cultural dates of significance in February:
- Black History Month
- Valentines’ Day (Feb. 14)
- National Flag of Canada Day (Feb. 15)
- Family Day (Feb. 16)
- First Day of Ramadan (Feb. 19)
- World Day of Social Justice (Feb. 20)
- International Mother Language Day (Feb. 21)
- Pink Shirt, Anti-Bullying Day (Feb. 25)

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - Mural of Memory and Meaning, Feb. 5, 7:30 PM
Many ideas, historical school artefacts, captions in heritage languages, and Indigenous consultation have been incorporated into the mosaic mural which is in its final stages of completion. Thank you to the parent volunteers and teachers that lent a helping hand to Michelena Bamford, artist-in-residence, and Mme. Rude in completing the final touches. The mural will be installed in the north-east hallway on Monday morning. The mural, and accompanying story board documenting the process, will be unveiled at the Open House on Thurs., Feb. 5th. Interested family members are welcome to drop by for the occasion.
Human Sexuality Consent Forms
New provincial legislation has become effective this school year, that requires parental notification and opt-in consent for the instruction of human sexuality. Keep posted for grade-specific details and consent forms that will be sent to parents this upcoming week. The information will include learning outcomes and topics of discussion, as outlined in the Alberta program of studies. Human sexuality instruction will take place during Health class in the week of March 2-6, taught by students’ Physical Education teacher.
