Dear Woodman Families,

We trust that our students have been enjoying their days off school and the beautiful weather. Teachers across Calgary converged at the annual Calgary City Teachers’ Convention yesterday and today. We were inspired intellectually and pedagogically by the wide range of offerings intended to keep us current in our practices.

Please note the important messages for the upcoming week. There is no school on Monday, February 16, as it is Family Day. Regular classes resume on Tuesday, February 17.

Family Plans for 2026–2027

Schools are commencing with the budget and staffing season for the upcoming school year. Having a clear understanding of our student enrollment is vital to ensuring the best planning for a successful school year.

Your child is automatically registered at Woodman for the 2026–2027 school year unless you inform us otherwise. If your family is planning on moving out of our catchment area, relocating from Calgary, or changing schools for any other reason, please inform us promptly at woodman@cbe.ab.ca.

School Resource Officer Visit – Grade 9 Classes – Tuesday, February 17

Constable Pain, our School Resource Officer, will be visiting each Grade 9 class on Tuesday to discuss important aspects of social media privacy and protection, as well as digital citizenship. We are grateful for our partnership with the Calgary Police Service in providing preventative education to our students.

Grade 9 Pascal Math Contest – Wednesday, February 25

Grade 9 students were invited to participate in a math enrichment opportunity on February 25 through the annual Pascal Math Contest (University of Waterloo).

Students who have registered to participate are requested to bring $5 to their classroom teacher. The school is subsidizing the cost of the contest.

Pink Shirt Day – February 25

February 25 is Pink Shirt Day. It is timely and important for everyone to show support for kindness, inclusion, and respect by wearing pink. Preventing and addressing bullying is an important part of a whole-school approach to mental health and creating safe, inclusive spaces for everyone.

Correction – Spring Break Dates

Please excuse the error in the communication of the Spring Break dates in a previous edition of the Woodman Weekly.

Spring Break is one week in length, from Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27. Classes resume on Monday, March 30.

Grade 9 Farewell – Tuesday, June 2

We wish to inform Grade 9 families that we have secured a date for the Grade 9 Farewell on Tuesday, June 2. Please add this date to your family calendars.

Hosted for Grade 9 students and Woodman staff, the evening event (commencing around 6:30 PM) is a celebration of all that students have accomplished during their time at Woodman School.

Leadership 9 students have already begun engaging in fundraising initiatives to assist with offsetting per-student costs of the event. Thanks to the widespread support of the “Crush for Your Crush” fundraiser last week, several hundred dollars were raised. More information and costs will be circulated closer to the date.
