Woodman Weekly Feb. 5-9 | IPPs, French Immersion Program Monitoring, Belcanfran,
Dear Woodman Families
It was an eventful week, as a result of report cards being published, with opportunities for reflection and goal setting for Semester 2. Should any families have issues with accessing the online report card in MyCBE, please contact the main office.
Grade 7-9 students were happy to meet new and old friends in their Semester 2 option classes, which commenced this week. We are proud of the wide range of Woodman programming options made available to our students, which helps them explore their passions and become more well-balanced human beings.
Take note of the messages regarding the week ahead, Feb. 5-9:
IPPs Sent Home by Fri. Feb. 9
Expect to hear from your child’s Individualized Program Plan (IPP) key teacher with an updated copy of the IPP by Friday. Some changes have occurred to key teachers for IPPs, as a result of class re-configurations in Grade 7-8 in October. IPPs are living documents that can always be adjusted based on student, teacher, and parent input. Goals that have been reached are changed, and goals that have not yet been reached have different strategies or measures added. Teachers work intentionally to help student voice be strong in the development of IPPs. Thank you for the support at home in teaching our students to embrace learning differences.
CBE-Woodman French Immersion Program Monitoring
The CBE Languages department has established an internal monitoring system of the quality of of the French Immersion program. The intention is that all students and staff across the CBE would understand and implement common expectations, standards of practices, and experiences. Woodman is one of six CBE language schools (including French, Spanish and Mandarin program representation) that has been named to pilot the program.
Grade 9 will be the target group for launching the program monitoring process. All Grade 9 teachers, parents and students will soon learn more about how they can share their experiences and thoughts. Updates will be provided in the school council meetings throughout the upcoming months, with a recommendation report being generated to guide the school over the next five years.
Thank you to the stakeholder group that is involved in this important project:
M. Laroche, CBE Languages Specialist
M. Krickhan, Principal
B. MacCarl, Assistant Principal
Tara W, Woodman Parent, School Council Chair
Mark M, Woodman Parent, School Council Executive Member
Mme. Rugama, Bilingual Literacies Learning Leader
Mme. Bailer, Science/Math Learning Leader
Angelina Y, Grade 9 Student
Sabine S, Grade 9 Student
Belcanfran Student Exchange Program Meeting – Feb. 10, 2:00 pm
We are continually seeking ways for students to experience French in the real world outside of the classroom. Belcanfran is an external organization to the CBE, which offers 11 week reciprocal exchange experiences between students in Calgary and France, Belgium, and Spain. Woodman families attended the meeting offered by Belcanfran in November, which resulted in numerous students applying for, and being accepted for the exchange next school year. An additional meeting is planned for any families who might still be considering this unique and life-changing experience for their child.
