Dear Woodman Families:

It was refreshing to receive our Wolves back to the Pack following the winter break. There were many happy smiles – and also some fatigue as students returned to regular sleeping patterns again.

We were pleased to welcome new Assistant Principal, Mr. Willoughby to the school this week.  Mr. Willoughby spent time in each classroom and is already making many positive connections with students and staff.

Note the important messages for the upcoming week of Jan. 12-16:

Modified CBE Reporting Timelines

As a result of labour action in October, the CBE has extended the communication of Semester 1 report cards until Tues. Feb. 24.  This allows maximum opportunity for teachers to provide instruction and assessment opportunities throughout the month of January. To best optimize on the month, students are encouraged to:

  • Attend school punctually and consistently
  • Optimize on classroom time, and
  • Reinforce learning through reasonable daily home study and review.

Semester 2 commences on Wed. Jan. 28, which will also be the first day of new Gr. 7-9 option classes. To learn more about assessment and reporting in the CBE, visit the following link: CBE Assessment & Reporting

Woodman Open House, Thurs. Feb. 5, 6:30-8:00 pm

Invite your friends and family to learn more about the Woodman school community through participation in our annual Open House. A focus is placed on meeting teachers, learning about programming options, and recruiting students for the Late French Immersion program. Kids will have lots of fun at The Great Wolf Trek. Keep posted for an invitation for current students to act as representatives and leaders at the event. invite | Woodman School Open House - Feb. 5, 2026

Canadian Parents for French

Canadian Parents for French (CPF) is a national network of parents that advocate for French language learning opportunities for Canadian students.  CPF organizes family events, camps and tutoring programs.  Because the French Immersion programs are often subscribed by parents who do not speak French, finding community supports and resources is key to creating a successful student experience.  Check out the upcoming tutoring program that begins on Jan. 19, for a nominal fee:

Belcanfran Exchange Program – Alberta and France/Belgium

Each year, Woodman families are invited to consider having their child participate in a language and cultural experience that will change their lives.  Belcanfran is a non-for-profit reciprocal family exchange between Alberta and France/Belgium.  See the website for more information: https://www.belcanfran.com/. We have recently hosted students from France that have enriched the classroom and school environments greatly.  Partner Woodman students will reciprocate the visit, leaving for France in early February.

Families are invited to an important information session to learn more about the program:

Volleyball Teams and Practices

We witnessed hundreds of students coming to the various volleyball try-outs this week.  Thank you, Wolves, for your courage and tenacity!  The difficult decision of forming four teams with the right balance of skills will be finalized by next week.

Students participating on school athletic teams must demonstrate good character and citizenship, while putting forth full effort in learning.  Parents of selected students will receive consent forms and be requested to pay team fees that cover the cost of referees, jerseys, association fees, and season party.

We thank the following teachers are volunteering their time to coach teams, as follows:

Junior Girls                 Mr. Heron

Junior Boys                 Mr. Colbran

Senior Girls                 Mme. Walker II

Senior Boys                Mr. Perez
