Woodman Weekly Jan. 29 - Feb. 2 | High School Tours, Semester 2 Timetables, Janet Johnstone Carnaval, Trip Payments Due, Athletics
Dear Woodman Families:
We close off this week and month with an acknowledgement of the incredible efforts of our staff. Report card writing is an intensive period of collaboration, consultation with colleagues, compilation of assessment evidence, and peer editing. When the report cards become live for families and students to view on Tuesday, know that they have been crafted with much diligence, oversight, and personalized care for the academic, physical, social and emotional growth of each student.
Doing all of this alongside faculty meetings, field trips, band rehearsals, volleyball games, wrestling meets, and extra-curricular clubs is evidence that our staff is bringing the best they have to the Woodman school community. Merci!
Take note of the messages regarding the week ahead, Jan. 29-Feb.2:

Semester 2 Grade 7-9 Student Timetables
Students are excited about the beginning of new option classes, which commence on Wednesday. We are proud to provide a rich array of choices for students, including: Band, Guitar, Performing Arts, Design Studies, Environmental and Outdoor Education, Art, Ceramics, Photography, Communication Technologies, Training in Excellence in Sport, and Foods. Students’ new option classes are viewable in the Power School app. Students will also be provided with a hard copy of their Semester 2 timetable by their teacher
Janet Johnstone Carnaval – Grade 8-9 Student Volunteers Wed. Feb. 7
We enjoy opportunities to foster good friendship with our feeder schools, while also developing leadership skills in our students. A unique opportunity is being offered to approximately 15-20 Grade 8-9 students who are motivated to speak French, and who wish to support in the Carnaval celebrations at Janet Johnstone Elementary School. The event takes place on Wed. Feb. 7. Interested students would leave school at 9:20 and return by 12:00 pm. A yellow school bus will transport students to and from Woodman, however students who live in the Shawnessy/Millrise neighbourhoods may walk to Janet Johnstone.
Please speak with your child about their interest in getting involved in the community. Express your interest by emailing woodman@cbe.ab.ca. A sign up sheet will also be put up in the main office for students to sign up.
Quebec and Sailing Trip Final Payments Due
Student lunch meetings for our upcoming overnight trips were well attended, and excitement is mounting. Over and above preparing students with the needed travel skills, the school is busy behind the scenes in finalizing itineraries and flight schedules. We request timely payment in MyCBE, in order for the school to manage the high volume of expenses and upcoming invoices related to the trips. Final payment installments are due, as follows:
Grade 9 Quebec Trip Feb. 5 $900
Grade 8/9 Sailing Trip Feb. 13 $600
Athletic Updates
The main gymnasium was full of players and spectators for the two volleyball matches and the wrestling meet this week. The sportsmanship of our plays is a great source of pride to us. We cheer on our Wolves and their teacher-coaches in this same spirit!
The divisional wrestling meet at Sundridge Badminton Centre will be a milestone event for the team, and we wish them the best of luck.
Woodman students are warmly invited to attend the Wednesday game at Woodman (4:15-5:15 against Nickle School).
