Dear Woodman Families,
At the closing of 2024, and in advance of important celebrations - such as, Winter Solstice, Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, New Years, Epiphany, and Orthodox Christmas - we send our Woodman families best wishes for togetherness, health, and a strong sense of community.  Our youth need this to thrive – both at home and school.   We care for our students deeply. We look forward to the rest and restoration of the next two weeks, in order to receive them into the Wolf Pack again, on Mon. Jan. 6.

Office Hours – Staff Contact

As staff will be on holidays, Woodman telephone numbers and email addresses will not be monitored over the next few weeks. The next Woodman Weekly will be circulated on Fri. Jan. 10, 2025.

Student Holiday Market Success

The Learning Commons was alive with vending and purchasing, as well as happy socializing, all week.  Thank you to the Wolves who supported the efforts by making so many purchases.  Vendors are in the final steps of counting proceeds. They will communicate the percentage that will be donated towards the Calgary Food Bank in the new year.

My CBE Power Schools – Grades Disabled

As was mentioned last week, the CBE will be disabling access to grades in January, allowing teachers to collect work from students and complete final assessments for semester 1.  Report cards will be viewable on the MyCBE account on Jan. 27.

  • Gr. 7 Field of Crosses Field Trip
  • Gr. 7 Calgary Farmyard Field Trip
  • Gr. 8 The Confluence

Woodman 2025-2026 Registration – Opens Jan. 12, 2025

We will be open for registration in all three programs of the school – Continuing French Immersion (Grade 5-9), Late French (Grade 7) and English Community Program. CBE decisions around registration eligibility are based on family address and catchment area. Encourage your neighbours, friends or family members to attend our annual Open House on Thurs. Feb.6, 6:30 pm.  See the invitation on our school website: Open House. It has also been added to the CBE corporate site.

Woodman School Council – Tues. Jan. 14, 7:00 pm, French Enrichment Opportunities

We hope as many parents as possible are able to participate – virtually or in person – during the upcoming School Council meeting.  Special presentations will be shared by Campus St. Jean (University of Alberta) on scholarship opportunities for students continuing on with their French Immersion studies into high school and beyond.  BelCanFran, a non-for-profit international student exchange organization, will also present.  We hope our Grade 8-9 students consider participating in this incredible, three-month exchange to France.

Library Grand Re-Opening, Mon. Jan. 27

As was previously mentioned, library book sign-out has been temporarily closed in order to undergo a massive book re-organization.  We want our students to have easy, enticing access to their favourite genres.  As such, book categories will now be based on genre, and not alphabetical order.  We look forward to providing students with orientations to the new lay-out when the library officially re-opens on Jan. 27.  In the meantime, ample board and card games have been added to the Learning Commons space so students can comfortably socialize over the lunch hour.  It is amazing how much talking happens, when Personal Mobile Devices are powered down in lockers!
