Dear Woodman Families
Many thanks to all the generous Woodman families who contributed food and cash to the Staff Appreciation Luncheon today. Our staff was amazed by the delicious offerings and loved the opportunity to taste the many special dishes that families prepared. It was a remarkable offering and we feel truly appreciated. Special thank you to Cinnamon for coordinating all the dishes. The School Council requests that parents please retrieve any kitchenware from the main office before the last day of school.
Please note a few important messages for the week of June 16-20:
Student Punctual Arrive and Afternoon Attendance
We send a friendly reminder that students should be arriving punctually at 9:05 in order not to miss out on important instructions related to Grade 9 PATs. Grade 6 PATs in the afternoon may require some slight adjustments to lunch hour, to provide students with the maximum allocation of time.
Despite the understandable fatigue students may be experiencing, we are focusing on learning and relationships that keep students engaged until the last day of school on Thurs. June 26 (early dismissal, 1:14). Regular classes follow this week’s upcoming Grade 6/9 PAT days. When students leave the building early, it contributes to an increased burden in maintaining accurate attendance by office staff. Teachers want to connect with their students in the afternoon to complete and review important curricular outcomes. Thank you for your awareness and support.
Option Class Selections 2025-2026
Today and early next week students in Grade 6-8 are selecting their option classes for next year (two classes in Semester 1 and two classes in Semester 2). Any students who were not in attendance will be given a final opportunity to sign up during the last week of school. Following this opportunity, students will be automatically registered into classes, based on availability. Students will be given their timetables on the first day of school, Sept.2. At that time, there will be minimal possibility for changes, given the compounding complexities of school operations.
Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples’ Day - Fri. June 20
We anticipate a special day of learning and celebration on National Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Following a regular timetable, each block of the day will be dedicated to a lesson with a different curricular tie. Indigenous centered programming will include:
- Learning about the Woodman story of the Indigenous Garden over the last three years, classroom visits to the garden
- Indigenous Games, such as Animal Muk and Tatanka, Tatanka
- Indigenous Music Show-Down
- Indigenous Map Reading and Treaty Rights
Return All Library Books
All library books are now overdue and should be returned to the Learning Commons. Mme. Mykyte, Library Assistant, has been providing overdue reminders to students. Students who have not returned their books by June 23 will be billed $15 per book, which will be added to the MyCBE fees account.
Lost and Found
Students have been provided with daily reminders to visit the display of lost and found items. Parents are also welcome to stop by the school during regular office hours (8:00-4:00 pm, Monday-Thursday) to search for misplaced items. All unclaimed items after Fri. June 20 will be donated to Women in Need Society.
My Transit Ride 2025-26
Each year, CBE collaborates with CCSD and Calgary Transit to provide a free orientation program that provides an opportunity for new and first-time transit riders to increase their comfort level and ability to ride Calgary Transit safely and efficiently to and from school. The orientation includes different stations for families to visit to learn more about route planning, fares, how to ride the bus or C-Train, safety features, rider etiquette and much more. Sessions run every half-hour and last approx 1 hour.
Session Dates and Times
Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 5 – 8 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 16 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
