Dear Woodman Families

It was a marathon week, with students completing daily year-end assessments and Provincial Achievement Tests.  Teacher observations of effort levels and achievement highlight that our students have given their best.

In this same way, we will give our best to closing the school year through celebration and commemoration, as outlined in the important messages for the week of June 23-26:

Cultural Potluck Mon. June 23 and Tues. June 24

More than 50 students and staff have signed up to bring the flavours of their family and cultural traditions to share with members of the school community.  Students received important messages during Wolf Pack today and confirmed participants all received an email to their CBE student Gmail accounts with final instructions.  A summary of informational items includes:

  • Grade 5, 6, 7 Cultural Potluck is Mon. June 23
  • Grade 8-9 Cultural Potluck is Tues. June 24
  • All students and staff are encouraged to wear an item of clothing or accessories that celebrate their family histories and cultural background
  • Students donating food dishes are requested to bring them to the lunchroom (not the main office) by 10:00 am, where members of the Diversity Club will receive them for refrigeration or re-heating (see email for more specific instructions)
  • All Woodman students will have an opportunity to sample some of the foods, in between 11:00-2:00 on each respective day
  • Students should still bring a regular lunch to school

We commend the leadership of the Student Council and Diversity Club in imagining this day, and for organizing the details with great independence and creativity.

Final Assessment Results and Semester 2 Report Cards

Teachers have worked intensively in completing teaching plans, collaborating in teams to discuss student achievement, and preparing report card comments and grades.  Processes for the communication of student learning include:

  • Grade 7-8 exam results will be posted to Power School by Tues. June 24th.
  • All CBE students may view their Semester 2 Report Cards in Power School on Wed. June 25; note that hard copies are not provided by the school
  • Families are encouraged to print their report card to retain for future reference; Power School does not maintain historical data on student report cards
  • More information about how to view, download or print online report cards may be found here: Online K-12 Report Cards Available June 25
  • Grade 6/9 initial PAT results will be provided to students in a sealed envelope by Thurs. June 26.  Note that this initial student result report issued by Alberta Education should be held in confidence, and with the understanding that final results may differ slightly when they are communicated to families in October. PAT results do not comprise part of the CBE report card.

Appeals Day – Fri. June 27, 9:00-12:00

We suggest the value in arranging a designated time between parent and child to read the report card together. This creates an opportunity for intentional recognition of accomplishments made this year; there are also specific recommendations made by teachers for next steps in learning.

If there are any incongruences or if you are unable to access the digital report card, please contact the main office right away.  Additionally, should families have questions about any aspect of the report card, we request that they email the teacher to book a virtual or in-person appointment.  Please email teachers by Thurs. June 26, 3:30 pm to request an appointment on Appeals Day.  Appeals Day is Fri. June 27th, 9:00-12:00 pm.

Wellness Day – Wed. June 25

Final plans are being made for the fourth and last Wellness Day of the school year.  Plans have been informed by student voice. On this day, students will spend half of the day outdoors, in a selection of 15 active challenges, such as Cross Net, Soccer Relay, Homerun Derby, etc.  During the second half of the day, students will have a choice of indoor activities for interaction and mingling with their friends and teachers.  Students will be divided into two groups: Grade 5-7 and Grade 8-9.

To prepare for a great day, take note of these details:

  • All students will be provided with a free lunch, including hotdogs (or non-meat/halal dogs), chips and a drink.  Gluten free options will be available. Students with other food preferences should pack their own lunch.  All students should bring a water bottle.
  • Dress for the weather, including a change of clothing if students choose to participate in the Water Bucket Challenge, Mario Kart and other water challenges in the courtyard
  • If students choose to spend time in the lunchroom, bring their favourite board game, table game, or deck of cards
  • The main gymnasium will be converted into a Woodman Movie Theatre; if students choose, they may bring a favourite pillow to lounge on, as well as snacks to share with friends while watching the movie

Woodman Staffing Updates

Each year, the CBE experiences movement as employees seek new professional and personal adventures:

  • We say thank you and farewell to Mme. El-Sedfy, Mme. Doyle and Mme. Bailer, who are moving on to new schools.
  • We wish Mme. Boutferni well as she advances her career by studying to become a teacher.
  • We congratulate Ms. Stenhouse on the commencement of her retirement, acknowledging the magnitude of her contributions to student well being, supports and services. Mme. Adrianna Walker will be taking on the Student Services Learning Leader role that Ms. Stenhouse previously filled, commencing in late August.

We will communicate any further staffing updates as they become confirmed.

Our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

Today was a special day of celebration of the new Indigenous garden, as well as of Indigenous knowledge, culture and music in Canada. Each year, CBE schools, including Woodman, renew our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Our website showcases the following 2025-2026 commitment: https://woodman.cbe.ab.ca/school

We will enact the attributes and provocations of: “Spirit Domain – To Be” and

“Heart Domain – To Belong” in our school community, as highlighted in the CBE Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework.

Regular CBE Transportation – Early Dismissal, Thurs. June 26, 1:14

Note that Thurs. June 26 is the last day of school, which is an early dismissal day.  CBE yellow school busses will retrieve students at 1:14, following the usual Friday schedule.

Yearbooks Ready for Circulation!

The student yearbook club, together with Mme. Rude and Mr. Homewood, have captured the best moments of the 2025-2026 school year. Yearbooks will be circulated on Thurs. June 26 and students will be given time to enjoy the contents together.  We encourage students to autograph each others’ yearbooks.  There are a few remaining yearbooks available for cash sale in the main office.  Most yearbooks were already sold through the My CBE account in the spring, although there are still a few unsold yearbooks which are available for cash sale ($40) in the main office.  The office is not able to accept debit or credit.

Last Woodman Weekly and Main Office Hours

A final message will be shared with families on Fri. June 27, which will include details regarding the first day of school on Tues. Sept. 2nd. Note that the main office will close to the public at 12:00 pm.
