Dear Woodman Families,
Thank you to the volunteerism of parents in numerous field trips over the last two weeks. Your involvement allows us to keep offering important outside-of-school learning opportunities.
A friendly reminder is extended about the Daylight Savings time, effective Sun. March 9. Students may feel sleepier in the mornings until their body adjusts to the change. We appreciate family support in promoting healthy bedtimes and punctual arrival to school.
Please take note of the important messages for the week of March 10-14:
Vive la francophonie!
Students will enjoy many authentic cultural opportunities planned for them this week. We extend special thanks to the School Council for generously funding a traditional tire sur la neige (maple taffy) experience on Monday, set up outside the rear of the school. The first stick is free; students wishing to purchase an additional stick may do so for $2.
On Wednesday, students in Grades 5-7 will enjoy a free concert, courtesy of Woodman School, of authentic Francophone music. Learn more about Francophonie Calgary.
Check out the fun with Bonhomme, château de sucre, and manie musicale through the school Instagram account.
“Winds from the South”, Jack Singer Concert Hall – Tues. March 11, 6:30
One of the greatest highlights of the musical calendar is the concert hosted by Dr. EP Scarlett High School. Approximately 80 Gr. 8-9 Woodman students, comprising the senior band, will showcase their skill on the big stage. Take note of a few important details:
- Attendance is mandatory, to ensure the band is sounding its finest
- This is a formal event, with student performers dressed for the occasion, as per instructions provided by Mr. Bane
- Students must remember to take their instruments and music at the end of the school day; there will be no one at the school after 4:30 pm for students who have forgotten band items
- Arrival and drop off is at the Stage Door on 9th Ave SW, 6:00 pm
- Concert commences at 6:30 pm, with tickets costing $17 for audience members; follow the link to the Arts Commons website for more info.
- Student pick up occurs in the main lobby of the Jack Singer, 8:30
- Note that this is a congested event; parents/students should communicate clearly in advance, in order to ensure a smooth drop off and pick up plan
We are proud of our student-musicians and wish them the best of success!
Volleyball Play Off Week – Woodman Hosts Jr. Boys Games – Wed. March 12
Our four volleyball teams and their teacher-coaches have been playing hard throughout the season. Their skill progression has been impressive. Thank you for the dedicated and respectful audience participation throughout the season. Woodman is hosting the junior boys’ schools and teams in our main gymnasium on Wednesday. In all CBE schools, the following restrictions apply, because of ongoing labour action and reduced support for facility operations:
- Spectators are restricted to family members and siblings of players
- No other student spectators are permitted
- No food or beverages in the location of play
Learning Conferences Booking Tool Opens – Thurs. March 13, 6:00 pm
Last week, CBE communicated with families that, due to ongoing labour action, Learning Conferences will be virtual, through Microsoft Teams. Conference times (10 minutes) may be booked with your child’s teachers on Thursday, March 20, 5:00-8:30 pm and Friday, March 21, 9:00-2:00 pm. CPS Cyber-Safety for Youth Parent Handbook
Thank you to the strong participation levels at the School Council special presentation last Tuesday. Parent participants learned important facts about social media and the need for awareness and safe guarding. Calgary Police Service Youth Link provided a parent handbook, which contains very helpful information for Woodman families: X. Let’s work together to educate and protect our teens!
Cinémagine Alberta Field Trip Fees
Students had a memorable morning at Landmark Cinema in Shawnessy, increasing their appreciation for Franco-Canadian cinema. The fee for this trip, $17, includes the cost of the ticket and transportation to and from the venue. We appreciate your punctual payment in My CBE.
