Dear Woodman Families,

Congratulations to all of the student class representatives who had the courage to share their slam poetry during a school wide assembly today. Students spoke with passionate conviction about their love of our planet, and how they would like us care for it with greater seriousness.

It was great having everyone back in the building again over these last two days. Band camp was a major highlight.  The completion of several memorable overnight trips over the last month has resulted in lots of effort and the need to be supportive - both on the trip and on campus. Thank you to our teachers for their dedication.  And, now it is time to focus on the last seven weeks of learning this school year.

Take note of the important messages for the week of May 13-17.  Note that there is no school for CBE students on Friday, May 17.  Monday, May 20 is a statutory holiday and there is also no school.  We wish our families a lovely long weekend, with classes commencing again on Tuesday, May 21.

School Council Special Presentation / Meetings

Monday May 13 at 6:00 PM

Join us on Monday for a special presentation by Dr. Eaton from the University of Calgary entitled Artificial Intelligence and Education: A Conversation With Educators and Parents. The presentation begins at 6pm both in person at Woodman School and online via Teams (join the presentation). Please RSVP to parentcouncilwoodman@gmail.com

Our regular Council and Society meetings will begin after the conclusion of the presentation. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Please see the brief agenda, which will commence upon the conclusion of the presentation (at approximately 7:15 PM)

Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)

Monday and Thursday

Students in Grades 5-8 will be provided with important reminders on Monday regarding Grade 9 PATs. PATs will be written in the lower level of the school and all other classes and activities will take place on the main floor. PATs will continue throughout the morning and over the lunch hour.  Bells will be turned off and movement of students throughout the building will be minimized. We know our Grade 9 students are well prepared to demonstrate their writing skills, and we wish them the best of success.

Friendly Reminder – St. Gerard’s Parish

The office staff at St. Gerard’s Parish, just south of Woodman School, kindly requests that members of neighbouring schools do not park in their parking lot.  This has impacted events they host, including funerals, during the week.  Parents are still welcome to drop-and-go in the mornings and after school.

Fundraising!

This spring weather is the perfect time to purchase potted plants, while supporting your child’s school.  Please reference the commercial email that was sent from the Woodman Music Parents’ Association earlier this week, or email Melissa Malejko, WMPA Fundraising Coordinator, for more information (melissa@malejko.com). Ordering closes on Mon. May 13!

Coming soon – the Woodman School Council Kernels Popcorn fundraiser!
