Woodman Weekly Nov. 20-24 | Conferences, MyCBE Support, High School Transition, Yearbook Contest, Drop-In Centre, Fundraisers, Athletics
Dear Woodman Families
We welcomed back our students from their Fall Break, many of whom showed us they were happy to return to a regular routine.
The school received an email of gratitude from the Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign, thanking Woodman families for all the generous donations as part of the Remembrance Day commemorations.
We commend the students of Henry Wise Wood High School for giving their time to lead Band sectional workshops with our students after school yesterday.
Take note of a few important messages for the week of Nov. 20-24. Friday, Nov. 24 is a CBE non-instructional day:
Learning Conferences – Nov. 23-24
Teachers are looking forward to connecting with families during the upcoming Learning Conferences, which serve as a mid-semester “oral report card”.
Thurs. Nov. 23 Face-to-face Conference Tips (4:00-8:00)
- Allow enough time to park, enter the main doors of the school and view the map with teacher meeting locations
- Respect our neighbours by refraining from blocking their driveways
- Late arrival times will result in a reduced meeting time, as teachers wish to respect everyone’s schedules
Fri. Nov. 24 Virtual Conferences Tips (9:00-1:00)
- Log in 1-2 minutes before the start of your conference time.
- Wait in the virtual lobby and teachers will admit you at the designated time
- Cameras and microphones should be on for all participants to enhance good communication.
- If you are a CBE employee, ensure that you are accessing the MicrosoftTeams link through your personal, not CBE email address. This ensures parent access, not meeting organizer access
General suggestions for a successful 10-minute conference:
- Ensure that your child is present and participates in the meeting
- Verify posted grades on Power School leading up to the conference, which teachers are currently working intensively at updating
- Frame your conversation around: “What has my child’s adjustment to the new grade and learning expectations looked like?” and “What are the action steps (2-3) that we can focus on between now and the first report card at the end of January?”
- Be sensitive to start and end times, in order to allow teachers to progress through their conferences in a timely fashion
Should you have any questions about booking, please contact the main office.

Woodman Yearbook 2023-2024
The Woodman yearbook is a beautiful compilation of memories, photos, and quotes that will remain with students throughout their lives. Yearbook sales will commence shortly. In preparation, we are launching a Yearbook Cover Contest. We encourage students to submit a creative idea for consideration.
Woodman Supports the Calgary Drop-In Centre
We are preparing for a Wellness Day on Dec. 15 that is centred on Citizenship and Community. On this day, students will participate in a number of experiences, including visiting feeder schools and learning more about how Calgary supports vulnerable citizens. Information about each grade level’s area of focus will be communicated shortly. As part of this learning, we invite all families to contribute to a giving campaign through the Calgary Drop-In Centre. An email was sent earlier today that included a list of new items being collected to support individuals who most need help. The collection of items will occur until Dec. 11. Please drop off items to the homeroom teacher. Woodman looks forward to receiving staff from the Calgary Drop-In Centre on the Wellness Day to share more about their community services with us.
WMPA Coco Brooks Fundraiser
The Woodman Music Parents’ Association is entering its second week of sales, and will continue until Nov. 27. Come visit the information table on Nov. 23rd (during Learning Conferences) in the main foyer. You can make an order or connect with a WMPA member to learn more about areas of financial support that the music program will benefit from through this fundraiser.
Woodman School Council Purdy’s Fundraiser
Those families who are signed up to receive commercial emails were sent information about the Purdys Fundraiser, hosted by the Woodman School Council in support of our school library. If you did not receive this email, and would like more information, then please email Woodman School Council at parentcouncilwoodman@gmail.com.
Woodman School Council is currently looking for a Volunteer Coordinator
The volunteer coordinator works with Woodman office staff to set up a volunteer database, to organize available and cleared volunteers, and to consistently communicate with Woodman office staff regarding all volunteers. A Volunteer Coordinator would be greatly appreciated by the office staff. Any questions can be directed to Tara at ParentCouncilWoodman@gmail.com. The next Woodman School Council meeting will be November 28 at 7pm. We hope to see you there!
CASINO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - 20 more spots to be filled
Thank you to those that have signed up. You have brought us to filling half the volunteer roles already. We are still in need of 20 volunteers to assist in working at the casino on January 19 & 20, 2024. Through casino fundraising we are able to bring in $70,000+ for the school. This money helps purchase computers, musical instruments, gym equipment, and much more. Our last casino helped us put in the playground our students enjoy daily. If you are able to volunteer please sign up at: https://signupschedule.com/woodmancasino or email woodmanvolunteers@gmail.com with any questions. Thank you for supporting Woodman students!
