Dear Woodman Families
We wish our senior girls and boys basketball teams good luck as they represent the school at the Legends Showdown at Mackenzie Highlands School this weekend.
Take note of a few important messages for the week of Oct. 21-25. Fri. Oct. 25 is a professional learning day for CBE teachers and there is no school for students.
Monday - School Picture Retake Day
Students who joined Woodman after our last picture day on Sep. 16, as well as any students who would like a re-take, are reminded to dress their best on Monday. Students should bring their proof package back to the photographer. Please send it with your child if they wish to have a retake.
Halloween Festivities – Thurs. Oct. 31
Students are invited to dress up in Halloween costumes if they wish. They may come to school with their costume on, and wear it throughout the whole day. It will still be a regular school day, with a few playful activities being planned by the Leadership 9 class. Please keep a few things in mind when discussing costume selection at home:
- Due to safety and security reasons, full-face masks and toy weapons (swords, rifles, guns, etc.) should be kept at home.
- Choose a simple costume that minimizes on slip, trip and fall hazards; students still need to transport their books/binders from class to class, and to do so in an easy manner
- Costumes should not reflect violent or sexualized imagery, or reflect cultural appropriation of any sort. Cultural appropriation can be described as perpetuating a cultural/ethnic stereotype or trivializing a tradition.
- Good judgement and decision-making between parent and child is requested
Parent Input on Remembrance Day Planning
Each year, CBE schools commemorate Remembrance Day on, or close to Nov. 11. Woodman School will hold its ceremony on Thurs. Nov. 7, 10:45 am. This is a time for Canadians to commemorate those who have served in combat, fostered peace in our country, and participated in peace-keeping missions across the globe. We are cognizant of, and sensitive towards the effects of war that some of our students and their extended families have, or are currently enduring. Because of this, we invite parent input on the content and general approach of the ceremony. Please email Principal Krickhan (woodman@cbe.ab.ca) with any thoughts, preferences, or names of individuals who could speak to the student body based on their experiences with peace-keeping missions in zones of conflict.
School Fees 2024-2025
Earlier this week, families received information about the approved fees for a variety of services and school-based consumable costs. These fees have now been added to your MyCBE account. Every dollar paid is re-invested back into the complementary courses students in Grades 7-9 benefit from. We want to maintain rich experiences in Foods, Art, Construction, Design Studies, etc. Thank you for your punctual payment of these fees.
School Council – Perogies Fundraiser Continues!
Our fundraiser with Prairie Gourmet Perogies & Sausages is ongoing with one week remaining to place your orders. We are excited to see that 34 families have registered as sellers so far and have ordered 48 boxes of product to date. This will mean $432 to spend on enhancing students' daily experiences at Woodman. Sales continue through the end of Friday, October 25th. Keep up the great work!
Follow this link to place your order: https://gourmetperogies.com/seller-registration/496. The password is Wolfpack, with an upper-case W.
Woodman School Council Needs You!
Woodman School Council is looking for parents to volunteer their time to become (1) our secretary, (2) our staff appreciation coordinator, and (3) our fundraising coordinator. All of these roles come with support from the previous parent volunteer. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) in which executive positions will be voted upon is on Tues. Oct. 29t Votes will be taken based on nominations made in advance of the meeting. Email your nominations to School Council Chair, Tara at ParentCouncilWoodman@gmail.com
Special Presentation: Canadian Parents for French - October 29, 7:00 pm
During the French Immersion program review conducted at Woodman last school year, a clear trend emerged. Parents are asking for assistance in supporting their child with French language learning, when they themselves may not speak French. For this reason, a special presentation has been arranged for you! We welcome Trish Rognvaldson from Canadian Parents for French, to share supports and resources that parents can access to help their children thrive within French Immersion and French-as-a-Second-Language programming.
Everyone is encouraged to join us at our School Council meeting on Tuesday October 29 at 7pm. The presentation will occur in the Learning Commons.
