Woodman Weekly Sept. 11-15 | School Messages, Forms, A Day or B Day?, Terry Fox, Online References, Athletics
Dear Woodman Families
We are all beginning to settle in to the school routine and learning plans. We are proud of our students for their eagerness to learn, make friends, and build relationships with their teachers. Their efforts are noteworthy. Woodman truly is a great place to learn!
Take note of a few important messages for the week of Sept. 11-15:
Subscribe to School Messages
School Messenger is one of the key modes of communication with families. A summary of all upcoming events is sent to families on Friday of each week. Throughout the week, various other, shorter messages, may be communicated. Please see this link for more information about how to opt in to emails and texts, as well as any commercial content which the school may send out.

Overdue: 2023-2024 Woodman Forms Package
Forms that were circulated on the first day of school, and which require parent signature, are now overdue. If you have not already done so, please complete and return to your child’s homeroom teacher on Monday.
A Day or B Day?
Student timetables run in a particular order every Monday and Wednesday (A days). They switch in the opposite order for Tuesday and Thursday (B days). For example, if Period 1 on an A day is Math, it will fall in the last period of the day (Period 7) on a B day. This allows for optimal focus for students who may be tired either in the morning or at the end of the day. Friday core classes always run in an A pattern. The only change on Fridays is the option class, alternating week by week from either A day options or B day options. Sound confusing? Ask your child! Alternatively, check out our school calendar on the website, as well as the important dates at the end of the Woodman Weekly.
Terry Fox Week – “Toonies for Terry”
Terry Fox is a Canadian hero who was unstoppable in his quest to conquer cancer, and raise funds for cancer research as he ran across Canada. Learn more about Terry Fox through the website:
https://terryfox.org/
Students are invited to bring cash donations to their homeroom teacher all of next week. All proceeds will be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation. Leadership 9 students have set a goal of raising at least $1500.00. Your child’s homeroom will be making decisions about how to dress in a coordinated colour or style. Alternatively, they are being challenging to create a flag and or chant to show their Wolf Pack pride as they run. Class photos will be taken of the event. For the Terry Fox Run on Friday, please ensure your child has a comfortable pair of running shoes, as well as a refillable water bottle.
D2L and Power School – Online References for Student Learning/Achievement
Teachers are busy establishing D2L shells, which will serve as an important digital space to ensure continuity of learning, should teachers or students be absent from school, or to review the accountabilities of each day. Teachers will be providing direction to students who may not be familiar with D2L. Bookmark the following link to our school website, and to Brightspace by D2L (bottom of page)

Power School is the location for posting key assessment results. Teachers update Power School on an interim basis throughout the school year, which is intended to support a clear understanding of achievement between report cards and learning conferences.
Teachers will speak further to their D2L shells and Power School during the “Meet Woodman Night” on Thurs. Sept. 21, 6:30 pm.
Athletics Schedule
This week we have had excellent turn out for our cross-country team. A coach was secured to for both the girls and boys soccer team, for which we are grateful. Decisions on final team selections will be made in the near future. Many students at Woodman are active athletes in club or community sports outside of school. School athletics further strengthen these students’ skills, while also teaching them to play in a potentially lower competition environment with varied skill levels within the team. Within school athletics, school pride and a sense of belonging is as essential as skill development.
