Dear Woodman Families,
Students and staff had a lot of fun for a good cause today, through the Terry Fox Run. Homeroom classes dressed in themes, Leadership 9 students cheered on the runners, and cold snacks were served. Photos will be on display at the upcoming “Meet Woodman Night” on Thurs. Sept. 19th. Note that students may continue to bring in Toonies for Terry until Fri. Sept. 20. Donations may also be made through the Terry Fox website!
Take note of a few important messages for the week of Sept.16-20:
School Picture Day – Monday
We remind students that individual photos will be taken of each student, which will be used for their Power School profile, as well as the 2024-2025 Woodman yearbook. Families will receive proofs from Lifetouch within the next few weeks, if they wish to make an order of photos for purchase.
Due Tuesday - Grade 8 SALTS Trip – Financial Commitment
Thank you to the Grade 8 families who attended the information meeting on Tuesday. Please complete the CBE Financial Commitment Form to save a spot on the trip. This form is due on Tuesday, and may be submitted directly to the main office (until 4:00 PM).
Don’t Miss It! “Meet Woodman Night”, Thursday, 6:30 PM
We encourage all families to attend our year-opening event on Thursday. Receiving needed information about school processes and learning plans is vital to ensuring a successful year. Come early to get a seat and find parking – as the building and surrounding parking areas fill up quickly. The event will commence promptly with greetings by school administration and introduction of staff in the main gym. Students may join with their parents, and show them around their classrooms. There will be formal presentations for Grade 5 and Grade 7 parents at 7:30 PM. We remind families that this is a time for meet-and-greet, and not for one-on-one meetings with individual teachers.
Woodman Music Parents’ Association AGM, Thursday, 8:00 PM
All Grade 5-6 families, as well as students taking Band in Grade 7-9, are invited to the Band Room at the conclusion of the evening. The Woodman Music Parents’ Association (WMPA) will present information about their role in supporting music programming at the school. An excellent example of the financial support the WMPA provides is in the upcoming clinics for Grade 7 students on Wednesday. These clinics, which are invaluable to familiarizing students with their new instrument, are fully funded by the WMPA. Thank you!
During the meeting, the annual vote for executive member positions will also be held. Consider your participation on the executive this year!
D2L and Power School – Online References for Student Learning/Achievement
Teachers are busy establishing D2L shells, which will serve as an important digital space to ensure continuity of learning, should teachers or students be absent from school, or to review the accountabilities of each day. Teachers will be providing direction to students who may not be familiar with D2L. Bookmark the following link to our school website, and to Brightspace by D2L (bottom of page)
Power School is the location for posting key assessment results. Teachers update Power School on an interim basis throughout the school year, which is intended to support a clear understanding of achievement between report cards and learning conferences.
Teachers will speak further to their D2L shells and Power School during the “Meet Woodman Night” on Thursday.
Wellness Days At Woodman
Four days are planned during the school year to focus on student well-being, belonging, and building a sense of community. On these days, there are no regularly scheduled classes. Rather, teams of teachers plan engaging presentations, outings, and guest speakers that respond to the developmental needs of our students. Wellness Days receive financial endorsement by the School Council, thus reducing costs for families and the school. Keep posted on the first Wellness Day, through the Important Dates section, below. Letters and consent forms will be circulated to students within the next two weeks.
Wellness Day #1 Grade Level Wellness Day / Retreat (October)
- Purpose: Make new friends and get to know teachers
Wellness Day #2 Community and Citizenship (December 13)

Woodman School Council Meeting with CBE Trustee Nancy Close, Sept. 24, 7:00 PM
The School Council is a group of Woodman families and staff that work collaboratively together to have a positive impact on student success. We encourage all Woodman families to become actively involved in School Council by attending our meetings, by reading our minutes shared in the Woodman Weekly, or by volunteering your time as a School Council Member.
During this opening council meeting, learn about the role of elected school trustees. Trustee Close will share insight on some of the pressing matters facing public education, and how she advocates for the needs of Woodman School.
We are actively looking for parents to help with several important roles on the council, including:
