Dear Woodman Families:
We enjoyed a full house at the “Meet Woodman Night” last Thursday. Thank you to the families and students who were able to join and make early connections with teachers and the school community.
The Wolf Pack Celebrates Terry Fox
Friday was a fun day for all. The Terry Fox lessons presented, the commitments to run for family and friends who have faced a cancer diagnosis, the class photos, and the sense of school community in the outdoor fields all contributed to a special event. We acknowledge the Leadership 9 students who organized the event with a great sense of responsibility. Thank you for the cash donations towards the Terry Fox Cancer Foundation. Online donations will continue to be accepted until Sept.30.

Athletic and Field Trip Fees in MyCBE
Over the next week, all participants of Cross Country, Soccer and Basketball teams should have received their forms, and had their fees posted on MyCBE. There are also fees posted for various upcoming field trips. Punctual payment of fees allows the school to pay referees, transportation service providers, and vendors. Thank you for your attention in this regard.
Note that central fees - such as Lunch Supervision (Grade 5-6), CBE Transportation and Music Instrument Rental Fee - and school-based fees - such as Complementary Courses and Incidental Lunch Activities - will be posted in mid-October.

Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth at Woodman
We are pleased to welcome the return of a valued community partner to work alongside the school in offering new-to-Canada students with vital supports and resources. The program offers eligible youth and their families with assistance in transitioning to a new school system, translation services, making friends, accessing medical and psychological services, etc. There will be two portions of the programming delivery model:
- Weekly In-School Settlement Worker (Tuesdays)
- After School Program (Tuesdays, 3:45) at Woodman, commencing Oct.7
The team has been visiting Gr. 7-9 classrooms to provide more program information to students. Any students who are interested in making friends and hanging out on Tuesdays after school are welcome to register.
Truth and Reconciliation Week
We have launched the school year by focusing on classroom learning related to our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation through Education. Woodman’s commitment this school year is:
We enact the provocations and attributes of “Spirit Domain – To Be” and “Heart Domain – To Belong” in our school community, as highlighted in the CBE Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework.
Specific learning related to the significance of Truth and Reconciliation will occur throughout this week. On Friday, students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt, as a sign of solidarity. Families may wish to visit the Orange Shirt Society website to learn more about what inspired the movement.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Event – Tues. Sept. 30
All CBE staff, students, families, and friends are invited to continue their learning and show their support on Tuesday, Sept. 30 (9 - 10:30 a.m.) at the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day event taking place at the Confluence Historic Site. This important event is a collaboration between the City of Calgary, CBE, Calgary Catholic School District, Calgary Police Service and Calgary Fire Department. To learn more about this event and others, visit the City of Calgary Orange Shirt Day website. Sept. 30 is a CBE Non-Instruction Day.
IPP Parent-Student Input Meetings – Mon. Sept. 29
Over the next few days, every family of a child on an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) will receive contact from their key IPP teacher. Flexible meeting times will be arranged and set up by the key teacher. Meetings may occur on or around Mon. Sept. 29 (CBE Non-Instruction Day), either in person or through Microsoft Teams. Students should participate in these meetings, to foster ownership and voice in the learning process. The next Learning Conferences for all students are on Nov. 27-28.
If you have diagnostic information about your child that you have not yet shared with the school, or if you do not hear back from your child’s IPP key teacher in the upcoming days, please email Mme. Walker, Student Services Learning Leader (akwalker@cbe.ab.ca).
