Dear Woodman Families

The 2024-2025 school year is launched!  It was beautiful to witness students re-connecting with their peers and teachers, while helping to make new students begin to feel comfortable.  Each student can experience the start of a new school year differently.  We are here to help them positively embrace healthy levels of stress and adaptation to change.

Take note of a few important messages for the week of Sept.3-6.  Monday, September 2, is a statutory holiday, and there is no school.  Classes resume on Tuesday.

B Days (Tuesday/Thursdays, Alternating Fridays)

Please review your child’s timetable together with them this weekend, or log on to Power School to obtain the same information.  Teachers provided students with school tours and helped them navigate from class to class.  However, your reinforcement at home will help them prepare for Tuesday.  It is a “backwards” day, with classes running in the opposite order as A Days (Mondays/Wednesdays).  Students will be visiting their B Day option class for the first time on Tuesday.

2024-2025 Woodman Forms Package

Please review the documents that were provided to your child on the first day of school.  These informational forms are significant to ensuring we have an organized and safe school year.  Forms requiring signature are due back to homeroom teachers by Fri. Sept. 6.

Woodman Physical Education (PE) Clothing

The online clothing store closes on Monday, September 9. This is your chance to purchase stylish, school-spirited apparel, including our official PE gym clothing. Some shorts may vary in design from last year. You can find the link below. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to show your school pride! Please email Athletics/PE Learning Leader, Mr. Heron, with any questions (caheron@cbe.ab.ca) Go, Wolves!

Terry Fox Run – Fri. Sept. 13

Families are welcome to meet up on the field to cheer on our Wolves as they run for a good cause, the Terry Fox Cancer Foundation.  Donations will be collected by bringing a “Toonie for Terry”, commencing the week of Sept. 11.  Links for online donations will be circulated soon. Students will run in homeroom Packs, dressed in a creative theme that identifies their Pack. Healthy refreshments will be provided to students.

Save the Dates!

Two important family orientation events are planned for September, in order to provide you with as much relevant information as possible:

  • Thurs. Sept. 19, 6:30-8:00 pm – “Meet Woodman Night”
School tours and grade team presentations
    Woodman Music Parents’ Association Meeting
  • Tues. Sept. 24, School Council Meeting, 7:00 pm (Learning Commons)
Meet new parents, form a support group, and mingle with the council executive and school administration

Students on Individualized Program Plans (IPPs)

During the first weeks of September, the Student Learning Team is busy reviewing student files, studying last year’s goals and accommodations, and supporting students as they transition into a new school year.   Key teachers are assigned to students on IPPs during the month of September.  Teachers appreciate time to get to know your child first, after which they will reach out to parents with a call or email.  Students with special learning needs will be provided with meeting time with the IPP key teacher to set goals together; these meetings will be held on Fri. Sept. 27 (non-instructional day).  Be assured that we know your child and are planning a careful entry into school for them.

Grade 5-6 Lunch Supervision Fees

Registration for Gr. 5-6 lunchroom services is mandatory. Following registration, fees will be available for payment, later in the fall. Please register in MyCBE/PowerSchool.
