Dear Woodman Families,
The beautiful weather - together with students settling in to their new classes and teachers - has resulted in an over-all, exceptional week. Of special note, our students are to be commended for their adherence to new Personal Mobile Device expectations. Keep it up, Wolves!
Take note of a few important messages for the week of Sept. 9-13.
CBE Transportation – Getting the School Year Launched
Some Woodman families of students registered to take the yellow school bus have been affected by route instability and delays. We recognize the impact that this has on our students and on daily family routines. The CBE Transportation team has been working intensively with service providers to make the needed adjustments. Some families received an email with improved/updated route times, which will become effective on Sept. 11. Access important information on bus routes through your MyCBE account. See the following link on how to make inquiries or obtain information:
Overdue - 2023-2024 Woodman Forms Package
Forms that were circulated on the first day of school, and which require parent signature, are now overdue. This includes:
- Student Health Plan (digital, only if needed)
- Digital Citizenship Contract
- Consent to Post and Publish
- Athletic Authorization Form
- Volunteer Registration Form
If you have not already done so, please complete and return to your child’s homeroom teacher on Monday.
TREX Art Exhibition – “Storytelling” by Indigenous Artists
Over the next few weeks, all students will learn through a powerful collection of art pieces by Indigenous artists - Christina Wallwork, Haley Bassett, Adrienne Greeyes and Laurie McCallum. Through support from the Alberta Foundation of the Arts (AFA), this exhibit has been set up in the school Learning Commons. It will inspire learning in Humanities and Art classes, with a special emphasis on why storytelling through art is important for Indigenous people. With the observance of Orange Shirt Day on September 30th, we believe this exhibit coming to Woodman is well timed. Parents are welcome to visit the exhibit at the “Meet Woodman Night” on Sept. 19th.
Terry Fox Week – “Toonies for Terry”
Terry Fox is a Canadian hero who was unstoppable in his quest to conquer cancer, and raise funds for cancer research as he ran across Canada. Learn more about Terry Fox through the website.
Students are invited to bring cash donations to their homeroom teacher next week. Proceeds will be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation. Your child’s homeroom will be making decisions about how to dress in a coordinated colour or style. Alternatively, they are being challenging to create a flag and or chant to show their Wolf Pack pride as they run. Class photos will be taken of the event. For the Terry Fox Run on Friday, please ensure your child has a comfortable pair of running shoes, as well as a refillable water bottle. The school will also offer our Wolves a cold treat upon concluding their run.
Grade 8 SALTS Overnight Trip – Parent/Student Interest Meeting, Tuesday, 6:30 pm
This week, Grade 8 families were invited to consider their child’s participation in an educational student trip to the West Coast, planned for April 7-11, 2025. The trip will focus on developing sailing and life skills. At this time, the trip is intended for Grade 8 students; however, should the trip be undersubscribed, it will be opened to Grade 9 students. The cost for the trip is paid through parent fees. The meeting is intended for students and parents, and will be held in the Learning Commons. While most of the important information regarding the trip will be shared in the meeting, families may wish to view the SALTS website for initial background information about the learning experience: https://www.salts.ca/

Heads-Up - Woodman Parents’ Education Society 50-50 Ticket Fundraiser!
Woodman School is dedicated to supporting the well-being of all students. Students’ academic success thrives when their physical health and mental well-being flourishes. With this in mind, the Parent Society is holding a 50/50 raffle to raise funds towards a variety of school enhancements. The final draw will occur on Sept. 30! Look for a commercial email that will be sent to families on Monday with all the information!
Athletic Updates
We applaud the many students who have been coming to Soccer try-outs and Cross Country team practices. The Basketball seasons launches on Monday. Final decisions on team formation will occur within the next few days and weeks ahead. In order to participate on a school athletics team, important criteria must be met, including:
- Demonstrating good character and citizenship in and out of class, and within the game environment
- Consistently attending practices and games
- Completing all needed parent consent forms
- Paying associated fees
See the practice schedules for the week ahead, below. More details and requirements will be communicated in consent forms that will be circulated to students. Please contact your teacher coach directly if more specific information is needed.
