Dear Woodman Families:
Thank you to the high participation levels at the Meet Woodman Night on Thursday. We are a strong, healthy and supportive school community!
Thank you to families and students who participated in Individualized Program Plan (IPP) meetings with teachers on Friday. Strong home-school partnerships are key to ensuring your child receives the needed supports and develops self-awareness and advocacy for their learning goals. IPPs will be finalized and shared with parents over the next two weeks.
Truth and Reconciliation at Woodman
Woodman staff, students and families identifying as Indigenous have been invited to engage in reflection of our progress over the last five years, in achieving commitments related to the 94 Calls to Action. The school commitment for 2026-2027 is being developed in response to this feedback and will be shared by Sept. 30. Specific learning related to the significance of Truth and Reconciliation will occur in classrooms throughout this week.
On Tues., Sept. 29 Woodman students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt, as a sign of solidarity for the intergenerational impacts of the residential school system. Families may wish to visit the Orange Shirt Society website to learn more about what inspired the Orange Shirt Day movement:

Woodman Indigenous Garden Re-Fresh
Various activities are planned this week to prepare the Indigenous garden for fall and winter. The garden was planted in June 2025, through the support of Jane Goodall Roots and Shoots and Alberta Teachers’ Association grants, and with CBE Grounds support. This week’s goals include identifying invasive vs. non-invasive native species, as well as naming the four domains of the garden (winter-spring-summer-fall). At the center of the garden are the Seven Boulders, representing the Principle of the Seven Generations. Planting and tending will continue in the spring.
Upcoming Grade Level Treats
Teachers have been busy planning the logistical details needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable time of community building over the next week. Please ensure that fees have been paid in the My CBE parent account in advance of the retreat. We thank the School Council for their generous support of Wellness Days at Woodman. Costs related to the yellow school bus have been covered by the School Council.

- Gr. 8 – Fish Creek Park, Fri. Oct. 2

Students should be prepared to feel comfortable and warm for a day outdoors. Please ensure that students are wearing appropriate jackets, hats, and footwear in accordance with the weather. Snacks/lunches and water bottles are requested.
Note that there are no Personal Mobile Devices (PMDs) permitted on school field trips. Students are required to have their PMDs powered down and in their lockers in advance of departure from the school.
Transportation Registration: Confirmation & Cancellation
Last week, families who registered for CBE Transportation for the 2026-2027 received an email with details related to fees and how to make central payments through My CBE. Families have until Sept. 30 to cancel registration with no financial impact. No action is required for families that will be using bus service for the year. Transportation fees will be loaded into MyCBE later in October.
