Stay Informed

Dear Woodman Families:

TIt was a meaningful week, as we enjoyed time together on the land, and in community.  Thank you to the many parent volunteers whose participation made the Gr. 7-9 Wellness Days possible.

Note the important messages for the week ahead, Mon. Oct. 5-Fri. Oct. 9.

Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation at Woodman 2026-2027

Through consultation with staff, families and students this week, we have established our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation for the 2026-2027 school year.  We are committed to developing authentic relationships with an Indigenous elder or knowledge keeper this school year. Please reach out with any suggestions on achieving our goal (woodman@cbe.ab.ca). This commitment has been posted to the school website: https://woodman.cbe.ab.ca/school

World Teacher Day – Mon. Oct. 5

In 1996 UNESCO established a World Teachers’ Day to recognize the vital role of teachers in society, and to uphold the value of the profession. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the UNESCO Recommendation of the Status of Teachers.  Learn more about World Teacher Day here: https://www.unesco.org/en/days/teachers. At Woodman, our dedicated and collaborative teachers make the difference in so many students’ school experiences. We thank them for their passionate commitment to our school, students and to their public service.

Traffic Light Installation – Oct. 5-6

As a result of ongoing traffic monitoring and advocacy from within the community and elected officials, the City of Calgary is installing a traffic light at the corner of Elbow Dr. SW and 86th Ave. SW. We expect that traffic flow and student safety will be improved as a result.  Expect construction crews in the area and potentially reduced traffic flow while installation occurs.

IPP Distribution and Parent Signature Page

Families of children with Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) will be provided with their working copy within the next week.  Please review the IPP together with your child; it is a living document and intended to reflect the voice and input of your child in their learning.  Signing and returning the Parent Signature Page is a legal accountability that we request your assistance with.  Please return the sheet the following week.

Woodman Video Surveillance System

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA).

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.

Parent Volunteering - Lunch Clubs

As we seek to provide students with opportunities to explore their interests and foster positive relationships, we are reaching out to parents who may have availability on a select day of the week, in between 12:30-1:30 pm.  If you have a unique skill that could be appealing for adolescent learners, please email woodman@cbe.ab.ca.  Final club offerings will be determined based on student interests. Note that parents must have a valid police security clearance to work in any school-related volunteer capacity.

Wrestling Interest Meeting

Students in Gr. 6-9 who are interested and have the available time to commit to participation in the school wrestling team are invited to an informational meeting on Tues. Oct. 6, during the first half of the lunch hour.
